Police reports
Steubenville Police
Short fuse: A woman in the 3900 block of Stratford Boulevard said she got herself a glass of water, which upset her husband who began yelling at her and “poured the water over her and the dining room chair,” Friday. She said he also shoved her to the ground so she pressed the medical alarm on her cell at which point he left the residence. Police said she had no visible injuries though she complained of knee pain, but they did see water on the dining room floor. She told police she wants to pursue charges.
No way to live: A caller in the 500 block of Cedar Avenue reported someone knocking on the front door, Sunday. Police said they saw a male standing outside the home and when they asked him what was going on he told them he was “trying to get into his residence” but could not get in. They said he knocked again and a female opened the door who “appeared to be in fear” and said she didn’t know the male before shutting the door. They said when they approached the man they smelled alcohol on him. Inside the residence police said the female was “crying and appeared to be in fear” and told them they share a child and he stays there “but she did not want him there.” She claimed he’d “been drinking and had struck her in the head,” allegedly causing “a small laceration on her forehead and some bruising.” The juvenile told police the male had hit the female in the head and reported it’s been “an ongoing issue.” The mother said she’s afraid of him.
Don’t be silly: A woman claimed a female motorist tried to hit her daughter while she was waiting at a bus stop in the 500 block of Woodland Avenue, Friday. She said the female motorist “approached (the juveniles waiting for the bus) and began to antagonize them, which started a verbal altercation between the two of them,” and then drove around the block. She told police she thought the female motorist “intentionally sped up” when she saw the kids and attempted to hit them, then came onto her porch while she was away and spoke with her friend. She said the friend told her the female motorist had complained that her daughter was disrespectful, but later her daughter called to report the female motorist followed them on the school bus and yelled at her. The mother said she “just wants the (female motorist) to stay away from her and her family.” Officers said the female motorist told them the kids “were standing in the middle of the road” so she told them they could get hit by a car if they didn’t move to the sidewalk, which caused the caller’s daughter to “call her offensive names and (behave) disrespectfully.” The female motorist said she was only able to speak with the caller’s friend and said she did not get on the bus. The following day the mother showed up at her home upset because she’d told the daughter to “get off her property” and wanted her to “get out into the street to fight.” The mother said she was “upset because she did not want (the female motorist) talking to her child.” Both women were advised to stay away from each other and to keep their kids away from each other’s house.
Attention getters: A couple was causing a disturbance in the 2100 block of Sunset Boulevard, Saturday. Police said they saw the male “lunge into the passenger side front seat and begin to pull on something” and, believing it to be the female, ordered him to the ground. After he was detained, police discovered the object he’d been pulling on was a jacket. They said the couple had been arguing resulting in the woman “breaking (the man’s) phone.” He declined to pursue charges so the two were advised to separate for the day.
Back and forth: A woman claimed her brother had “struck her in the face during an argument,” Friday. Police said she had no visible injuries and another female told them the caller and her brother had been “going back and forth and…were assaulting one another.”
Tag switch: Employees at Wal-Mart said a male had tried to purchase three steaks using a price tag for a much lower priced item, Saturday. They said the male “scanned the bottom of three steaks” each valued at more than $35 and used a few $1 bills to pay for them, but was stopped when he tried to leave the store with the stolen items. Employees said the man was in their office when he decided to flee, leaving the property in a silver Honda Accord with West Virginia plates. The merchandise was valued at nearly $120, police said.
Abandoned: Someone parked a box utility trailer at a business in the 4000 block of Sunset Boulevard and left, Saturday. An employee advised the truck had been there “a few weeks.” Police told him he’d have to file a trespass affidavit with the city’s clerk of courts for removal of the trailer.
Nuisance: Kids were riding bicycles through rows of vehicles parked in Hollywood Plaza, Saturday. Management said vehicle owners were complaining and asked that the kids be told to leave the property. Police said the kids left when they told him they weren’t wanted in the lot.
Denied calling: A caller complained about a parking issue in the 300 block of Cedar Avenue, Saturday. The caller said someone had blocked access to a garage, but when they arrived at the residence, the resident “advised he did not call and there were no parking issues in front of his (home).”
Second thoughts: A Belleview Boulevard resident said she’d asked her child’s father to watch him while she went to the football game, but when he and his girlfriend arrived to pick the child up “an argument broke out over the amount of time they would have him,” Friday. The child’s father and his female companion said they were upset because the ex “had been drinking and they saw her fall down the steps,” but police said she appeared to be coherent and capable of watching her child. The mother told them she no longer wanted them to watch the child.
Downplayed: Someone reported a disturbance in the 600 block of Grandview Avenue, but when they arrived at the location a woman involved said “nothing had taken place other than an argument,” Friday. She said the other parties involved had already left the area and police were not needed. Police said others in the residence were “very hesitant to provide other information.”
Noisy: A caller complained of a loud radio in the 900 block of McKinley Avenue, Saturday. Police said the homeowner “agreed to keep the noise to an acceptable level.”
Booked: Andre Hamlin, 44, 542 Cedar Ave., was booked for domestic violence and was also served with a warrant for failure to appear, Sunday; Delbert P. Kernan, 54, 303 High St., Brilliant, violating a protection order, Saturday. Kernan allegedly was found in the same vehicle as the protected person, police said; Richard German, 29, no fixed address, failure to appear, Friday.
