Bird brain: A manager at Pet Supply Plus told police a man known to him parked his Mercedes G wagon on the sidewalk and then came into the store “wearing a blue jump suit, a face mask with a hole cut out around the mouth, a silver cowboy hat and a pet bird perched on his shoulder,” Wednesday. He said the man “seemed intoxicated and he could smell alcohol” on him and once inside the store, “became belligerent” and was advised to calm down. Not long he said the man was “crawling around on the floor trying to catch a bird,” and when that didn’t work, used a box an employee gave him. He left the store with the bird in the box, driving off “at a high rate of speed around the corner of the building toward Wal-Mart with no regard for any other traffic or pedestrians” before employees realized the bird in the box wasn’t the one he’d brought into the store but, rather, a cockatoo valued at nearly $350. The manager wants the man to be charged with the theft and doesn’t want him in the store any more due to “continuous issues with (him.)”

Dumb driving: One man was treated after a two-vehicle accident on state Route 7 south, Wednesday. The drivers both told police a northbound vehicle making an illegal U-turn at a break in the median had caused the accident.

Struck: A vehicle parked at 1 Ross Park Boulevard was struck by a hit-skip vehicle, Wednesday. Police said there was “functional damage” to the front passenger door and fender.

Ankle biter: Callers reported a small dog running around, nipping and barking at people,” Wednesday. Police located the dog’s owner, who put him inside.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 4325 Southeast Drive, two small brush piles in back yard and one on the site of residence that have high weeds.

Served: Thomas William Rogers, 47, John Hood Road, Steubenville, warrants alleging illegal use of a tracking device and violation of a protection order, Wednesday.

Charged: Employees at Wal-Mart claim a woman tried to leave the store with about $100 in merchandise she hadn’t paid for, Wednesday. Police said Jennifer Mazik, 56, 107 Emery Ave., Mingo Junction, was issued a summons for petit theft. In addition to the items in her possession when she was detained by employees, police allege they found several other items in Mazik’s purse.

Helped himself: A South Sixth Street resident reported her live-in boyfriend found her keys and took her car without her permission, Wednesday. She said he’s used it before, so police told her it’s unlikely the prosecutor will file charges.

Charged: A city resident is facing multiple driving violations after a two-car accident on Seventh Street near Washington, Thursday. Police said Samira Ahmed, 29, 470 S. Sixth Street, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, driving without a license and assured clear distance ahead.

Asked to go: Police were asked to “remove an intoxicated female” from an apartment in the 800 block of North Sixth Street, Thursday. After speaking with them, police said the woman left the apartment.
