Dog rescued: A resident in the 1200 block of Arlington Avenue gave police video of a neighbor striking his pitbull with objects on two occasions, Friday. Police said in one video he swung a black backpack “very hard at the animal” when it wouldn’t go back in the house on Nov. 4 and then two days later, “took a full plastic water bottle and threw it at the animal.” Police said on both occasions the dog “cried out” and ran off. Police located the owners and told them the dog was going to be seized, but instead they opted to surrender it to the Humane Society. Police said they charged David Glaze, 44, 1206 Arlington Avenue, with cruelty to companion animals.
Taking liberties: A man who was just released from rehab said he found out people known to him had used his spare key to take his car without his knowledge, Friday. He said the individuals used a spare key he kept in a book bag to drive away with it, then managed to get themselves arrested while he was in treatment and his car was impounded. He told police he’d like them to be charged with unauthorized use and have them held accountable for the impound/storage fees, but since his registration was expired police told him he’d have to get it updated and then get the municipal judge to release it. They told him he might have to take the offenders to small claims court to get restitution for the impound fees.
Not welcome: A woman in the 1500 block of Oregon Avenue wanted an individual she said was squatting in her detached garage removed from the property, Saturday. The male told police he’d been living inside the residence with her but her family members “did not want him on the property” so he’d moved into the garage two days earlier. The homeowner told police she doesn’t want him on her property any more, so they waited while he gathered his belongings.
Followed: A city resident told police she dropped her kids off at school and as she pulled away, saw a dark-colored van follow her, Friday. She said she went to a family member’s home and the van pulled up next to her car and the driver stared at her. She said he started to get out of the van so she honked her horn for her father to come outside and when he did, the man drove off.
Near miss: A resident in the 1600 block of Oregon Avenue told police she couldn’t get her car in her own driveway because someone had parked in front of it, Saturday. She told police if they couldn’t find the driver she wanted it towed, but they were able to find the owner at a residence on the corner of Oregon and North Labelle Court. He moved it.
In the way: Callers said juveniles were “blocking the roadway” on Pico Street at Alexander Avenue, Saturday. Police said when they got there the road appeared to be clear and bystanders told them the juveniles causing the problem had left.
Drove away: A Pennsylvania Avenue resident said a woman known to him drove off in his car without his permission, Saturday. He told police if they found his car he was willing to pursue charges.
Butter fingers: A woman dropped her husband’s prescription in the parking lot at Wal-Mart but another shopper found it and turned it in, Friday. Since Wal-Mart has a policy against returning found prescriptions, police spoke with the pharmacist and loss prevention officer to confirm the woman had actually picked the medicine up and then turned it over to her.
Acting out: A caller reported an “intoxicated” man had caused a disturbance at a downtown business, Saturday. The business owner said the man “appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and possibly something else” so he told him to leave because he was contacting police. He said the man drove off in an Acura.
Causing problems: Callers reported a man in the 1200 block of Lincoln Avenue was causing problems, Saturday. Police said they eventually located the male involved “however, he ran into his house and began using vulgar language toward (them)” and refused to answer questions. Police told him if they got another call about him, he would be arrested.
Throwing stones: A Belleview Boulevard resident said someone broke her windows and was knocking on her door, Sunday. She said the perpetrators may have left in a vehicle, but she didn’t see it. Police said two rocks had been thrown through her living room windows.
Booked: A motorist stopped for having an “extremely loud exhaust” ended up in custody on an outstanding warrant, Saturday. Police said Aaron Jackson, 22, 310 Henry Ave., Steubenville, was booked into the county jail for the weekend on a warrant for domestic violence. They said the registration on the car he was operating, owned by another individual, was expired so the vehicle was towed.
Reported: A caller reported hearing shots fired at Beatty Park, Saturday. Police said they were unable to locate any signs someone had fired a gun.
