Snow mistake: An officer in the middle of a traffic stop at Franciscan Way and University Boulevard said he was talking to the driver when a snowball bounced off the roof of the car and hit him in the face and shoulder, Sunday. He said when he stopped a group walking nearby 18-year-old Patric Davet, Winchester, Va., admitted he was the one who threw the snowball. The officer said he smelled of alcohol but when they asked him if he’d been drinking he initially denied it, but when they told him they could smell it on him he allegedly admitted he’d “consumed alcohol earlier in the evening.” Davet was charged with obstructing official business, disorderly conduct and underage consumption, police said.
Smile for that camera: A motorist flagged down a deputy sheriff who, in turn, told City Police he’d been flagged down by a man upset because his vehicle had been vandalized in the mall parking lot, Friday. He told police someone left vulgar messages on the side of his truck. Police said it appeared the individual used a finger to write on one side of the truck “I can’t open my trunk, (expletive)” and an expletive on the other. He told police he got to the mall around 4:20 p.m. and was only there for about an hour, so they were able to locate surveillance video of two women exiting the mall and said one of the women “walked around the truck” before they left in their gray SUV.
Start walking: A woman walking in the 600 block of South Street called police for assistance and when they got there, told them she “did not wish to identify herself and stated she needed a ride to Mingo Junction,” Sunday. Police told her they weren’t going to take her anywhere due to staffing limitations, so then she claimed she’d been assaulted at Club 106 but “would not provide any information” about the alleged assault “and insisted officers provide her a ride home.” Police determined the woman was intoxicated and said when they told her they couldn’t leave her somewhere if she was unable to properly care for herself the woman told them she no longer needed help.
An employee at T-mobile reported a woman in the store was “shouting profanities at her,” Friday. She told police the woman had left the store before they could get there but she was still concerned for her safety leaving, so police waited until she was in her car.
Disruptive: A man in the 100 block of North Fourth Street was “cussing and yelling” at others walking on the sidewalk, Friday. Police told him to stop cussing and yelling at people.
Button up: Callers reported a male dressed in dark clothes “falling over and screaming obscenities at vehicles,” Saturday. Police said they spotted three different men fitting the description but none of them were acting belligerent.
Identity crisis: A Sinclair Avenue resident wanted help retrieving her ID, Friday. She told police she left it in her friend’s vehicle but needed it for an errand at the water department, and her friend said “he would get it to her but on his time and he was busy.” An officer printed off her information and escorted her to the water department but was told they could only accept a photo ID. Police said she attempted to contact her friend several more times by phone but “he would not answer,” so they told her she would have to wait until he was done with his work.
Repeaters: A 9-1-1 caller hung up, but not before dispatchers heard someone yelling “get away from me,” Saturday. Once at the scene police said both parties advised “they were having a disagreement and denied any physical altercation” but one of them agreed to leave for the day so “everything (would) cool down.”
Walk off: Two teens are facing charges after they allegedly tried to walk out of Wal-Mart with nearly $300 of merchandise that they hadn’t paid for, Saturday. Employees allege the two concealed the merchandise under a blanket and then tried to walk out of the store without even going through a checkout, and when police questioned the two of them they maintain the girls “admitted to leaving the store without paying.” Police said Kalyn Young, 19, and Lilly Larkins, 18, both of 85601 Miller Station Road, Hopedale, were charged with theft.
Served: Erica L. Carpenter, 35, 900 Sherman Ave., Steubenville, failure to appear, Saturday. Police spotted Carpenter inside Coen Market but said she locked herself in the restroom until he left, but he waited outside until she walked up to the checkout counter and took her into custody.
