Steubenville Police

Must be love: A Foster Place resident claims he went to his father-in-law’s home to look for his wife and his father-in-law “assaulted him by pushing him out of the residence,” Friday. His father-in-law, who lives next door, said the caller came into his home twice: He said the first time the man entered he “threatened to hit him” but ran outside when he approached him, and the second time he came in the caller “refused to leave when told” and said he did shove him out of the residence. Police told the caller his father-in-law doesn’t want him in his house. The caller’s wife decided to stay with him, though police tried to persuade the two they needed to separate for the night.

Eye test: A juvenile in the 1100 block of Hillary Square was upset that his stepfather put a piece of clear tape at eye level across his bedroom doorway and it ended up “stuck to his eyelid and hurt when he had to pull it off,” Saturday. He said his stepfather “acts like this often and he’s tired of it” so he “began to yell out of frustration,” which he claims caused his stepfather to “respond by yelling and threatening to lay hands on (him.)” His stepfather said he “pulled a prank” on the youth and “did not realize the juvenile would not find it funny (or) be harmed by it.” He said he was upset when the juvenile “began to yell and curse at him” so he yelled back. After both confirmed the dispute never became physical, police suggested they needed to separate for the evening and the boy was given permission to stay with a friend or family member.

Hit and ran: A man who reported a hit-and-run in the 3900 block of Sunset Boulevard said a passenger got out of the other vehicle “and makes a comment about not wanting to miss an appointment,” then punched him in the face, Friday. He said he was eastbound when a female driving the other car decided to change lanes, causing him to swerve to avoid her vehicle to avoid a collision. He said she kept going so he pulled alongside her and told her to pull over, which she did. But when he told her he wanted to file a report with police, he said the male got out, struck him and they tussled, exchanging punches. He said his glasses were broken in the struggle and police said his cheek “was bleeding and starting to swell.” Damage to his vehicle was light but the man wants to pursue charges against the male. He had a picture of the woman and her license plate.

Swamp land for sale: Two people were spotted in the backseat of a car parked at Jim Wood Park after hours, Saturday. Police said a male involved told them he and his girlfriend were watching YouTube videos. The couple left the park, which closes at dusk.

No signs: A resident in the 800 block of North Sixth Street reported hearing shots being fired, Saturday. Police said the caller reported hearing three gunshots and seeing a small silver sedan speeding away. They checked the area but didn’t find anything amiss.

Last call: A caller reported a loud party in the 900 block of Oxford Boulevard, Sunday. Police spoke with the resident who said everyone was currently leaving and apologized for causing a problem.

Heading out: A Maxwell Avenue resident wanted individuals removed from his home, Friday. He told police he’d rented them a bedroom for $400 but he’s had issues with them and claimed he hasn’t received payment. Police advised him he’d need to have them evicted before they can take action.
