Weirton Police
Arrested: Todd A. Melvin, 61, 142 Ann St., Weirton, extortion, Feb. 13, arrested on a felony warrant from Brooke County.
Breaking and entering: Richard Lee Brown, 49, 59 Liberty Ave., Weirton, breaking and entering, fleeing on foot, , arrested after being caught breaking into the mill and trying to flee from officers.
Charged: Dreyvan Walton, 28, 228 Erie Ally, Wellsville, two counts wanton endangerment, fugitive from justice, Wednesday, arrested on a warrant in relation to an incident in January.
Theft: Cody Palcic, no age listed, 90 township Road, Brilliant, entering without breaking, Feb. 15, arrested after being on mill property for the theft of copper.
Charged: Charles Briggs, no age listed, 1004 McKinley Ave., Steubenville, entering without breaking, Feb. 15, arrested after being on mill property for the theft of copper
Possession: Timothy W. Thompson, 56, 48 Dean St., Dillonvale, possession of marijuana, Thursday, arrested following a traffic stop.
Arrested: Jacob M. Shorts, 204 Elmer Ave., Weirton, possession of a drug abuse instrument, Sunday, arrested following a traffic stop.
Steubenville Police
Caught: A downtown resident told police she was stuck in her bathroom and needed help, Saturday. When they told her the door was locked she began “yelling in distress and (appeared) to need immediate police assistance” so they kicked her door in, only to find out she “believed she saw a large cat that wanted to harm her in her residence.” Police told her the only creature they saw in her home was a puppy and managed to get it in its crate but he remained adamant that she’d seen a cat and asked to sit in a cruiser “because she felt she would be safe in it” while they checked her apartment again. After searching it again they told her again that all they found was her puppy, at which point she said she was OK and no longer needed assistance.
Long walk: A caller reported seeing a woman passed out in a vehicle parked at Steubenville Marina, Sunday. She told police she came to the marina with her fiancé but “they began arguing … (and) he left the area and walked back to Empire.” Because there were several open bottles of liquor in the center console and her license was suspended, police said they gave her a ride to the station where her ride picked her up.
Damage done: A Lovers Lane resident said he’d hired a contractor to work on his bathroom in November and at the end of the workday ‘he backed out of the driveway … (and) the trailer attached to the truck struck a column at the end of his driveway,” knocking it over. He said the contractor agreed to repair the damage but never came back to take care of it or finish the bathroom and isn’t responding to his calls or texts.
Grab’n go: A Wintersville man said someone took “a large bag of clothes and laundry products” from his car while he was in Wal-Mart, Sunday.
Bothered: A woman in the 100 block of North Fourth Street said a female has “been harassing her for several months and has been threatening to assault her,” Sunday. She showed police messages she’d received.
Being loud: A disturbance was reported in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Saturday. Police said a couple flagged them down and said they’d been “discussing matters regarding their child and (it) escalated to yelling,” but the dispute had been resolved.
Had enough: A city resident told police her son “became physical with her and pushed her” and said she wanted his mental health evaluated, Saturday.
Pilfered: A North Sixth Avenue resident said he let a male in his apartment and after he was gone, discovered a $100 bill was missing, Saturday.
Needed help: An officer on patrol was flagged down by a man on Lawson Avenue at West Adams Street who said he had “been walking around for a couple hours and currently has no place to go,” Monday. They took him to a warming center.
False alarm: A caller reported hearing a shot fired in the vicinity of Linden Avenue, Saturday. Police spoke with someone in the area who told them it was fireworks.
Underage drinnking: A city resident reported an 18-year-old female was intoxicated in the lobby of a building in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Saturday. Police said the girl couldn’t be located.
Served: Donald Adams, 815 N. Sixth St., Apt. 616, Steubenville, warrant, (driving under suspension and failure to yield, Municipal Court), Thursday; Deborah J. Schiffman, 44, 1306 Park St., Steubenville, probation violation, Saturday.
