Steubenville Police

Festering: A Spring Avenue resident said a woman “threatened to shoot him” after an argument, Monday. He said she “stole money from him in the past” and was not welcome in his home. The woman said she was doing her laundry at a friend’s apartment.

Hands down: A man in the 1400 block of Adams Street said his companion “was hitting herself” as the two of them argued about “past incidents” and he was concerned he would be “falsely accused of abusing his spouse,” Monday. He said they’d been arguing for several hours and claimed at one point she “spit on him while (she was) yelling and began hitting herself in the face” and produced an audio recording “that sounded like (she) was smacking herself.” The woman denied it and claimed she was actually clapping her hands while yelling” and also denied spitting on him, but the man’s daughter said the spittle escaped while her father’s female companion was yelling. The complained that he “shoved her down on the couch” and said a man was present who had seen it, but when police talked to that man, he told police he heard the argument but never saw anything physical. Police said their “conflicting stories” and lack of independent witnesses “made it nearly impossible to find a final solution,” so they were advised to separate for the remainder of the night.

Alcohol rage: A woman in the 400 block of S. 5th Street said her boyfriend was “irate, yelling and throwing things around” the residence but it never became physical, Monday. Her boyfriend’s mother said he was angry “because he couldn’t find (his girlfriend’s) debit card.” She called police back to the resident later, claiming her boyfriend had assaulted her father. The father said he’d been sleeping but woke up to the sound of his daughter and her boyfriend arguing, and when he “checked on what was happening…he was attacked and struck in the face” by her boyfriend, who then fled the area. She said her boyfriend “had been drinking and was intoxicated” and they weren’t sure where he went because “his family lives in Wheeling and they are unaware of any of his friends.” The father had a small cut on his nose but denied medical assistance, though he did tell police he’d like to pursue charges against the boyfriend.

High kickers: A S. 6th Street resident said a next-door neighbor with whom she’s had trouble in the past has been kicking and damaging her door, Monday. She said the neighbors also pound on the walls between their apartments, “causing (her) walls to shake and light covers to fall from the ceiling” and told police after the incident she saw her scurrying into her apartment. Police checked security footage and said they saw a group of juveniles walking behind her house and one of them “ran up (her) back steps” but the girl she accused “didn’t appear to have anything to do with (it).

Wildlife: A Lawson Avenue resident asked police to remove a bat from her home, Monday. After they removed the bat from her sink and let it loose outdoors. The resident then told police there was a bird loose in the house as well, but they were unable to find it.

Loud mom: A caller was concerned that the “yelling and pounding” happening at a residence in the 400 block of S. 5th Street was “the mother physically harming (her) three children,” Sunday. Police spoke with mom, who said all was well and she “was not harming her children.” She admits she yells at them when they misbehave but said she doesn’t hit them and believes her neighbors “continuously call police on her in an attempt to get her to move out.” Police said the kids all appeared to be in good health.

Some yolk: A man in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue told police he’d like to pursue charges against whoever egged his car, Monday. Police said there was “egg yolk and shells from what appeared to be multiple eggs all over the hood of his vehicle.”

Issues: A woman in the 1300 block of Oak Grove Avenue said she and her child’s father were arguing but he left before police arrived, Monday. She said he “was intoxicated…and causing problems (in) the residence.”

Gone: Someone reported seeing two males “trying to break into a black SUV” parked on Wellesley at Carnegie Avenue, Monday. Police didn’t locate anyone suspicious but said they did find a small crack in the windshield.

Broken: A Rosswell Avenue resident said someone “threw some object at his front door “causing the glass…to shatter,” Tuesday.

Stocking up: A woman walked out of Walmart with a shopping cart loaded with items she hadn’t paid for, Sunday. Police said she stole bedding, adult diapers, cat food and cat treats valued at nearly $140.

Belligerent: An Oregon Avenue resident complained about a crowd gathered “and causing a loud noise” on Rosswell at Maple, Saturday. While an officer was speaking to a responsible party, he said a woman “walked up and began yelling and interfering with the call.” Once that woman “began yelling at the other officers” present he explained why they were there and that person agreed “the crowd would move inside for the night.”

Summons issued: Izabella Hawthorne, 20, 1100 Lincoln Ave., Apt. B, Steubenville, warrant (Municipal Court) theft.

Booked: Essie B. Sriramdas, 39, 544 Woodland Ave., warrant (Wintersville County Court) for menacing.

Booked: Charles Manson Jr., 31, 1434 Ridge Ave., Steubenville, warrant (Municipal Court) for theft, Monday. Police said they were advised of the warrant after they stopped Manson because he had only one working headlight.

Booked: Brian M. Gorczyca, 41, Wheeling, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, Sunday, Gorczyca also was served with a warrant (Belmont County) for failure to appear. Police report Gorczyca was laying across the front seat when they found his vehicle in the Aquinas School parking lot and allegedly found a folded-up tin foil square containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine and another with marijuana, as well as straws and glass pipes.

Living large: A Brockton Road man told police someone went on an online shopping spree with his debit Mastercard, Monday. He said the fraudulent purchases totaled just under $2,300.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 1312-1316 Arlington Ave., scrap metal junk cars and litter in yard, junk cars and car parts in adjacent vacant lot; 639 N. 6th Ave., two mattresses on front porch.

Cited: Dawn Hanlin, 57 311 N. 7th St., Steubenville, no tail lights. Police said Hanlin had been warned earlier in the shift that she couldn’t drive the car at night until she got the lights working. Vehicle towed. Others cited: Aidan Jacomet, 20, Oakwood, Ohio, expired/unlawful plates; Corina Mattioli, 28, 1401 Wellesley Ave., Steubenville, speeding (school zone) and driving under suspension; Jacob Degarmo, no age listed, 713 E. Fernwood, Toronto, possession of drug paraphernalia; Ashanea Herrin, 29, 711 Market St., Apt. A, Steubenville, driving under suspension.

Jefferson County Sheriff

Cautionary tale: A Richmond man said he thinks the 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 he bought off Facebook marketplace was stolen, Feb. 25. Deputies said neither the VIN on the title he was given nor the one he found on the dashboard came back as stolen. The buyer said he paid $4,500 for the truck but after driving away, it “started to pour out black smoke and then became disabled and now is not drivable at all” and complained the seller refused to refund his money. Deputies told him it would be a matter for the courts to decide.

Pleasant type: The owners of an East Springfield property said two people who’d moved out were “demanding $500 or they are coming back,” Feb. 26. They said the couple had packed up their belongings and moved out several days prior and said the male is working on the pipeline, but his car had been repossessed “and (he was) threatening to move back into the house if they didn’t send him the money.”

Recipe for trouble: An apparent overdose was reported on Township Road 246, Feb. 27. Deputies said two women they found at the scene told them the male called her “and she believed he sounded intoxicated, so she went to check on him and found him lying on the ground.” She and another woman said the man told them, “he took some pills but did not know what they were.” The male admitted “he did some cocaine, drank some liquor and took one pill but did not know what it was.” He wouldn’t tell deputies where he got the cocaine or the pill.

Funny money: Someone used two counterfeit $100 bills to load a prepaid card at the Tiltonsville Family Dollar, Feb. 28. The assistant manager said the bills passed the initial marker test, but the store was busy and it wasn’t until later that she looked at them in depth and “noticed the bills felt slightly different than normal…currency and didn’t look the same when placed to a light.”

Bad break: A Toronto resident said he was at his ex-girlfriend’s residence to get some of his belongings when her son “started an altercation with him” and assaulted him, Feb. 28. He told deputies he didn’t want to pursue charges but wanted to make sure he told them what happened.

Cited: Courtney Wright Monigold, 111 Euclid St., Amsterdam, driving without a license; Joanathan Grim, no age listed, 517 Grant Ave., Martins Ferry, driving on a suspended license and failure to move over for an emergency vehicle.

Weirton Police

Charged: John D. White, no age listed, 9631 County Road 53, Bergholz, DUI third, driving while license revoked, Feb. 25, arrested following a call of a man passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Charged: Jayson T. Rosewood, no age listed, 503 Garden Way, Weirton, vagrancy, Feb. 25, arrested after refusing to leave the bus stop. Reports indicate he had been sleeping there and causing issues.

Charged: John L. Nation, no age listed, 3908 Adams St., Weirton, public intoxication, Feb. 25, arrested after being in an alleyway, looking into a garage with a flashlight and refusing to go home while drunk.

Brooke County Sheriff

Charged: Francis E. Shriver, 49, 58 27th St., Wellsburg, theft of utilities, Monday.

West Virginia State Police

Charged: Jeffery C. Wickham Jr., 32, 2413 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, Saturday.

Follansbee Police

Charged: Natasha J. Thomas, 38, and Kyron D. Coleman, 37, both of 708 Virginia Ave., child neglect creating risk of injury, Friday.
