Police reports

Steubenville Police

Beat down: A resident in the 400 block of Spring Avenue told police he was approaching another man with whom he’s involved in a “dispute over property” when the man got out of his car and “began to punch (him) in the face four or five times,” Sunday. He said he thinks the man “had brass knuckles on” during the assault. Police have pictures of the man’s injuries but said he declined medical attention and wasn’t sure if he wanted to pursue charges.

Fishy: A Sunset Boulevard resident said he’d told a woman who’d been staying with him that she should find somewhere else to live and when he returned from work, discovered someone had “dumped blade oil into the case of (his) computer” and took two karate swords.

Creeped: A kid riding his bike behind Kroger told police he noticed an old-looking Ford pickup “that appeared to be following him in/around the Union Cemetery area,” Saturday. He said he recognized the vehicle because of several Snap-Chat social media posts picturing the vehicle” referencing a “creepy man” staring at the posters.

Scary situation: A Steubenville man is facing multiple charges after a family member alleged he “grabbed her head and threatened to kill her,” Sunday. She told police the male had been drinking and they’d “argued for a while,” claiming that at one point he “exited their residence, discharged a firearm and came back” inside. While she didn’t see him fire a weapon, she claimed she heard the shot “at the same time he was outside the apartment” and told police he was currently in the apartment and had access to two guns. Police convinced the man to exit the residence, after which they reported finding a spent 9mm casing on the ground by the front door, a Glock on the couch and another gun “tucked and sticking out between couch cushions.” They said the female was “upset and crying,” alleging that he’d “pointed the gun at her face and threatened to kill her” and said she’s afraid to sleep when he’s in the residence. She said he “has not been taking (prescription) medication and had been drinking excessively” since the passing of a family member. Police said Devonte Moses, 35, 321 Woodlawn Blvd., Apt. 4, was booked into the county jail on charges of aggravated menacing, discharging a firearm in city limits and discharging a firearm while intoxicated.

Conflicting accounts: A Westwood Drive resident said a couple “started threatening him” in a fast-food parking lot, Sunday. He said the pair “made statements about wanting to fight him and the female said there (was)…a hit out on his head and (people) will be looking for him.” A few minutes later the female called to report “none of (what the man said) was true and she did not threaten (him)” and told police he as “trying to date her 16-year-old daughter.”

Down time: A woman complained that some of her things were at a residence in the 700 block of Market Street and the tenant refused to give them back, Sunday. She wanted police to help her get her things, but when they spoke with the tenant, she said woman would have to come back when she was sober.

Help wanted: A woman in distress was located in the Pleasant Heights area, Thursday. She told them “she was too afraid to kill herself so she was in the street for someone else” to do it. Police said they tried “numerous times” to identify the woman without success but arranged for Steubenville EMS to get her to the hospital.

Playing with fire: An apparent overdose was reported in the vicinity of El Villa Way, Friday. Police said the man was unresponsive but revived after they did sternum rubs and gave him two doses of nasal Narcan. He was issued a drug treatment form before being taken to the hospital for further care. Then, on Saturday morning, police said the same man overdosed at a residence in the 200 block of Harvard. His breathing was slow and shallow, so the homeowner and his father told police they gave him “seven doses of nasal Narcan.” He was given his second drug treatment form and sent back to the hospital.

Someone called 911 and hung up, and when police looked into it they discovered a “very young child” admitted calling because “they saw someone with a knife chasing someone else outside his window,” Saturday. An adult who was there didn’t see anything, they said.
