Couldn’t hold it: Callers said a man was “being loud” in the 800 block of N. Sixth Street Tuesday. No one was causing a commotion when police arrived, but a man on a balcony “was yelling that (a man) had urinated in the parking lot.” The man denied it, telling police he “was visiting with a friend and was going to leave after he ate his taco salad.” Police gave him a ride home.
Scavenging: Demolition crews arrived at a Lawson Avenue location Monday to find members of the property owner’s family taking aluminum and copper from the residence. The demo crew had the necessary permit, but the family was “very upset that the house was being torn down and that the demo crew had yelled at them to leave.” The family called a county employee who said there was no permit and told police to stop the demo crew, but city building officials were called to the scene and explained to the family why it was being torn down. A day earlier, a concerned neighbor reported seeing the family removing items from the property. Police said a family spokesman told them “they were given permission to be there by the woman who owns the property,” who is incarcerated.
Lovesick: A Cleveland Avenue resident complained her ex-girlfriend “has been continuously leaving gifts and letters” on her porch despite being barred by a judge from contacting her Tuesday. She said the woman has also been emailing her.
Not missed: A juvenile requested help getting his belongings from his mother’s home on Sherman Avenue Tuesday. His mother said he had “already got all of his property … and can remain gone.” Police advised him to leave and wait for things to calm down, but he did not heed their advice and instead tried to enter through an unlocked window. His mother went after him and an argument ensued. She pushed the juvenile out and told him to leave. Police eventually escorted him to his vehicle.
Tough love: A man claimed his daughter had been assaulted by her mother Tuesday, but the mother told police the girl “was being punished because she was at a friend’s house after she was told to be home.” She said she slapped her daughter and told her to go home, but the girl kept telling police she did not want to stay there. Police advised her that decision is up to her parents and sent her inside. The mother was advised to call police before things escalate next time.
Clashing: A city resident claimed a family member assaulted her Tuesday. Police said she was on the floor when they arrived and asked for help getting up, even though a younger female had been attempting to assist her. The caller said they had been arguing and the younger woman “was yelling at/toward her and (had) grabbed her wrist” and neck. She said incidents like that “occur often and … she is afraid” of her. Police said the younger woman admitted they had been arguing and yelling at each other, but claimed she only grabbed the older woman’s wrist to prevent being hit. Police said the younger woman had no visible injuries and the older woman had a small cut on her wrist. Neither wanted to pursue charges, but due to the concerns expressed, police charged Gina Layman, 24, 121 Pico St., with domestic violence.
Covering up: A caller reported a man bothering customers outside Rubi’s Restaurant Tuesday. He denied it.
Drugs: A man was “laying in the roadway” on Lawson Avenue Monday. Police said he was on the ground surrounded by a group of people and was unresponsive and not breathing, so they administered Narcan to revive him. He was issued a drug treatment form and taken to the hospital.
Crowded: The owner of a property in the 600 block of Ross Street sent her son to check on it after receiving notice it was trashed Tuesday. The son said 15-20 people were at the property, though he believed only one person was renting it. Police advised that renters are allowed to have guests. He said he was unsure who was renting the property, and police told him to follow up with an eviction notice if necessary.
What a mom: A caller reported seeing a juvenile at North End Park during school hours Tuesday. Police took the juvenile home and spoke with his mother, who they said was “less than cooperative.”
Neighbors: Someone complained about several piles of landscaping rock and a trailer in the driveway of a residence in the 2400 block of Alexander Manor Tuesday. Police said they will contact the property owner.
Pushing it: A man “acting strange and possibly needing assistance” was reported in the 1500 block of Sunset Boulevard Tuesday. Police said he told them he was “only staring at the ground and did not need assistance.” About three hours later, police were asked to check on a man “possibly in distress” in the 2500 block of Sunset Boulevard. He again told them everything was OK. Twenty minutes later, someone reported seeing the same man standing in the roadway in the 2200 block of Sunset. When police caught up with him, he was on the sidewalk, and they warned him further violations could result in jail. He refused a courtesy ride downtown.
Dumped: A Hollywood Boulevard resident told police she found a computer bag with papers and a mouse in front of her residence Tuesday. She showed police video of two men walking by, removing a laptop and dropping the bag in front of her home. Police located the owner, who said he had left it in his unlocked car overnight.
