Police Beat

Steubenville Police

A caller reported seeing a woman who appeared to be disoriented walking in the vicinity of University Boulevard Sunday. Police said the woman had a dog on a leash but was “stumbling around and falling to the side of the roadway.” She told police she’d been eating at a nearby restaurant with her boyfriend but when he called her “in an offensive and inappropriate way,” she walked out. Police said she was “carrying a cup filled with an alcoholic beverage and an open can of Four Loko,” both of which they dumped out and said it was obvious she was intoxicated. They contacted two people to try to get her a ride home but “met with negative results.” When she told them she’d consumed “approximately half a gallon of vodka throughout the day,” police had her transported to the hospital for assistance.

Altercation reported: Two men at a Buena Vista location were involved in an altercation Sunday. A man said his brother “backed him into a corner … in a threatening manner” and when he tried to push him away, “began grabbing him” and then started “head-butting him.” He said his brother fled before police arrived but he wants to pursue charges.

Rowdy kids: Police were told a group of juveniles was “causing a disturbance and being destructive” Saturday inside a business at Franciscan Square. Police located the kids involved and after ensuring no property had been damaged, they waited with them until their parents arrived to pick them up so they could speak with them.

Throwing stones: A LaBelle area resident told police Sunday she’s having trouble with juveniles in her neighborhood taking rocks out of her landscaping and “throwing them at houses and cars.” She said she’s afraid the problem will escalate and they’ll damage property and she’s asked them to stop but they continue to cause problems and produced a video of the kids in action.

Strange thank you: A city resident said she gave a woman a ride from Urban Mission’s food pantry to Walmart and then home, but after she dropped her off she discovered the woman had taken her cell phone, an Amazon Fire tablet, her bank card and a black Cash App debit card.

Priorities: A woman in the 100 block of N. Fourth Street told police someone went into her apartment and stole two grams of marijuana and a smoking bowl Saturday.

Kids play: Someone reported seeing kids Saturday “hanging around/slightly out of a window on the ninth floor” of the JFK Apartments. Their father said the kids had been playing near the window but he would tell them to stop.

Followed: A juvenile who was riding his dirt bike in the street near Pico and Hollywood Extension said a male in a silver car “began following him around yelling at him” until he pulled away from the driver Saturday. Police pointed out he shouldn’t be riding in the street or on a sidewalk.

Keeping to herself: A woman asked police Saturday to check on a friend who hadn’t been heard from in about two weeks. The woman’s employer verified they hadn’t seen or heard from the woman since her last shift five days earlier when she clocked in. Property maintenance entered the property and found the woman sleeping. Police said when they arrived at the residence to check on her the woman “refused to answer the door.”

Booked: Stevan D. Wilson, no age listed, 2121 Margaret St., Steubenville, failure to appear (Toronto County Court), Sunday.

Time to go: A Wintersville woman said a friend came to her home Friday to talk, “got upset and started throwing things and breaking glass everywhere.”

Magnified: A Dillonvale area resident said she was hearing “loud banging, talking, music and (saw) a large glow in the sky” Saturday. She told them the noise was getting louder and shaking her home and theorized it could be large fireworks. Deputies located a group around a campfire but they denied having anything to do with the banging.

Helped himself: A Bloomingdale woman said a family member came into her house and stole her medications “and drained her bank account” Sunday. She told deputies the individual siphoned $240 from her reserve account. She wants to pursue charges.

Drug issue: A caller said a woman was parked in his Wintersville driveway Saturday, passing in and out of consciousness. She ended up at the hospital, but not before deputies and Wintersville police reported locating a white substance on the seat consistent with cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Won’t stay away: A Mingo Junction man said he was assaulted by a woman who “came into his residence and stole his belongings,” then hit him in the face. He said she had lived with him at one time and after two years of trying, he got her out. He said she hasn’t resided at the location in months.
