Refuge: A Linden Avenue caller told police someone stole his vehicle Thursday, then hung up. A female sitting in the car told police she and her boyfriend had been arguing and she locked herself inside because she didn’t feel safe around him and claimed he had threatened to throw a brick through the window and kill her. She said he already had thrown a brick through a window to get into the house through a back window after she failed to pick him up from work and he had to get a ride home from someone else. The boyfriend said he needed his car to get to work and thought she was going to drive off with it. Police told her she would have to vacate the vehicle, and when she said she didn’t want to stay there they gave her a ride to the mall.
Vengeful: A man reported an intoxicated woman trying to drive away from a Parkdale Road residence with her children Thursday. Police located the woman, who said she had not been drinking and was not planning to leave her house. She said family members had been there after a funeral and an argument took place with a male who she believes placed the anonymous call. When police tried to call him back he would not answer.
No dice: A Maryland Avenue resident said her sister was banging on her windows Wednesday. The homeowner said her sister’s friend owes her rent money and until she pays up she will not get her things back.
Thousands lost: A Rosslyn Boulevard resident told police a caller purporting to represent AT&T scammed him out of about $9,000 Wednesday. He said the scammer told him about a sale involving phones, watches and other merchandise, so he ordered numerous items. After they were delivered, the scammer told him they had to be sent back to be programmed, so he took them to UPS. When he tried to contact the scammer about the items, he could not be reached. He said the stolen merchandise totaled about $8,500, with another $616 charged to his Visa card for taxes.
