Police Beat

STEUBENVILLE POLICE

Shattered: A woman at a Highland Avenue location told police Tuesday her ex broke a window in her vehicle with a chainsaw then fled into the woods on foot. She said he was not taking her calls and when she went to his home they “began arguing on the front porch over money and the lack of support for their children.” She said at one point he pushed her against the wall with a forearm to her throat then grabbed a chainsaw that was on the porch. She reported no obvious injuries but said she wanted to pursue charges.

Hide and seek: A Spring Avenue resident said her brother climbed through her second-story window Thursday and was hiding inside her home and refused to leave. Police checked the room where she believed he was and did not find him, but she said another family member would arrive soon to help her.

Mixing it up: Passersby reported a man possibly passed out Thursday under the overpass on Lawson Avenue. Police said he was unconscious but after being shaken several times he awakened though he “was not very responsive” and had difficulty answering questions. He admitted using drugs and taking prescription medication earlier in the day. Steubenville EMS was called but he refused transport and was issued a drug treatment form.

Pipe down: Police were asked to check on a man in the parking lot at Hollywood Plaza Monday for bothering customers. He told police he had been asking people how their day was going but said he would stop.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners and occupants of properties at 143 Hollywood Blvd., 420 Dock St., 1317 Oak Grove Ave., 1425 Oak Grove Ave., 1438 Arlington Ave., 1632 Roosevelt Ave., 1644 Roosevelt Ave., 1032 McNeal Ave., 2800 Cleveland Ave., 3826 Stratford Blvd., 2530 Cherry Ave., 714 Oxford Blvd., 722 Broadway Blvd., 2023 Fairmont Ave., 719 Jeannette Ave., 714 Oxford Blvd., 2314 Chestnut St., 101 Cunningham Lane, 2521 Alvaredo Blvd. and 616 Pine St. for high grass. A separate notice was issued for 1418 Euclid Ave. for high grass and discarded household items stored on the front porch.

Heating up: A caller reported a fight in the 900 block of N. Sixth Avenue Sunday. No one was scuffling when police arrived. A man involved said he had argued with “numerous people” after a woman in a vehicle “yelled and cursed at his daughter for riding her scooter on the street and not moving fast enough.” He said he confronted the woman at which point “multiple other individuals…exited the vehicle and approached (him)” and one told him, “Imma get you,” and made a threatening gesture toward his hip as if to reach for a gun.

Blame game: Two men involved in a fistfight Monday in the 100 block of McDowell Avenue each blamed the other. One said he was working outside when he heard a couple arguing and heard the male say, “I’m not going to hit you, I’m going to hit (him).” He said he squared up and was punched. The other man denied starting the fight. Police said both had numerous injuries but neither wanted to pursue charges.

Grudge match: A city resident told police Monday her tire had been slashed overnight. She said she did not see it happen but believes the suspect had been “banging on her rear door…calling her out to fight” at 4 a.m.

Just say no: An unidentified male threatened an employee at a downtown business Monday after she refused to let him use her cell phone. She said when she declined he began threatening her and said she “better watch herself when she gets off” work that night.

Still upset: A woman upset over a recent breakup Monday allegedly spit on her ex. She had gone to his Harding Avenue home to retrieve her belongings and after collecting them when he told her to call if she forgot anything she spit on him.

Booked: Elijah Rose, no age listed, 14 Paul Ave., Wintersville, tampering with evidence (warrant); Eddie McCalister, 18, 401½ Fernwood Dr., Apt. 2, Wintersville, assault; Angelique Ottobre, 55, 8898 State Route 213, Lot 30, assault.
