Con job: A scammer tried to get his hands on funds belonging to a city business Sunday by claiming to be the new owner and advising the employee to “go to a bank and transfer money through Cash App.” No money was moved.
Bully: A woman said she was at a residence in the 200 block of N. 3rd Street Sunday when a male came home and began to “play fight” with her but was “slapping her in the face.” She said she told him to stop multiple times before he grabbed her by her hair and was still holding it as she walked toward the door but she got loose, grabbed her kids and left the residence but he followed her. A woman started walking with her and said the male grabbed the victim by her hair again, causing her to drop her 1-year-old child, so the witness stepped between them and told him he needed to leave. An employee of a nearby business said the victim “ran into the store and said she needed help” and the male came in and “started yelling at (her).” The employee said when he told the man to leave, he “turned around and started threatening him.”
Theft: Employees at Walmart told police a shopper left the store Sunday without paying for all the items in her cart. They said the shopper failed to scan “several food-like items” into the store’s digital pay app.
Bounced: A S. 6th Street resident said juveniles were outside his home Sunday, bouncing a ball on his apartment wall and when he confronted them one argued with him and then began to threaten him. He said the juvenile “began to climb through his apartment’s open window” but stopped and left the scene. He didn’t want to pursue charges but did ask police to tell the youth to stay away from his home, and police told the boy and his mother he needed to stay away.

Dirty laundry: Residents at an apartment complex in Wintersville were fighting over laundry Saturday. The caller said he confronted a couple for yelling at his daughter so she could use the machines and reports the male “became irate and threw a can at him, possibly breaking two fingers.” He said the machine in their building didn’t have hot water so his daughter emptied the dryer the couple was using and folded their laundry for them but when they found out she’d touched their laundry the wife began to “yell and curse” at his daughter so he walked over and yelled at her, then the husband hurled the beverage can at him. His daughter said she’d told the man she folded their laundry for them and he didn’t say anything, but when his wife came over and started yelling and cursing she returned the favor. The husband claimed the daughter became belligerent to the two of them and then her dad came over, “yelling and screaming” at them “to the point where spit came out of his mouth,” allegedly landing on him, his wife and baby. He said he felt threatened by the father and threw a full can of an energy drink at him. The husband wanted to pursue charges because spittle landed on his wife and child, but he also admitted he hit the other man with the can. Deputies told the couple they needed to stay away from the father and daughter because if they had to return to the complex, they would be going to jail.
Tumbled: A man fell off his bicycle and injured his head Saturday. EMS personnel advised the man was “being combative and is heavily intoxicated.” He was taken to the hospital. Due to his intoxication, deputies said he couldn’t refuse treatment.
Foul situation: A woman said a child in her care went for a weekend visit with a previous guardian who returned the child Saturday “smeared with what appeared to be animal feces,” dressed in clothing that didn’t belong to him and wearing a diaper that was too big for him. She told deputies that “due to how the child smelled and the filth he was covered in,” she is concerned that the former guardian may not have water service. Deputies advised her to relay the information to Child Protective Services.
Egged on: A Steubenville township resident said he found the remnants of an egg on the floor of his garage Sunday. He said it’s not the first time his car and property have been egged and wanted a report on file “since the issues are persisting.”
Wouldn’t talk: Someone in Wintersville called for assistance Thursday but dispatchers said all they could hear was a man talking to someone in the background and report the caller didn’t speak to them before disconnecting. Minutes later a girl called back to say her step-father had called because he was “intoxicated” and was arguing with her mother, but there was no physical violence.
Ransacked: Rayland residents reported their vehicles were entered Saturday. One caller said her car had been ransacked overnight and while she didn’t notice anything missing but heard other residents had called about similar incidents. Another woman said her husband discovered the doors on four of their vehicles were left open and someone had been in the center consoles.
Theft: Someone stole copper wire conductor Friday along County Road 22A near Bloomingdale. The caller said several poles in the area were missing their ground and a phone line was on the ground.
Road rage: A Rayland woman said her neighbor cut her off Saturday, then got out of his car “and started screaming at her and her kids” in their car.
