Updated: The dog that had been locked on a small ledge outside a second-story bedroom in the 1200 block of State Street Wednesday was removed from the property due to the puppy’s condition, the extreme circumstances in which police found it and the owner’s detachment. The report in Friday’s paper inadvertently omitted information during the production process and didn’t include how police resolved the incident.

Lucky day: A burglary in progress was reported in the 400 block of S. 5th Street Thursday. The caller said a man was “actively trying to kick in the back door of a vehicle.” When police arrived, the male was standing beside an open driver’s-side door and told them he wanted to retrieve some of his belongings. He admitted the vehicle wasn’t his but denied kicking the door. The female who owned the vehicle said she was in her kitchen doing dishes when the male “began kicking her back door,” and police noted it was bent and damaged. She said she’d just met the man, but when they tried to question her further**,** “she became agitated and slammed the door shut.” The male was advised to leave the area, but police said he “continued to yell obscenities and demanded (to be) taken to jail.” Police told him that wasn’t going to happen so he should leave, which he did.

Ding dong: An employee at the downtown Speedway reports a man flew off the handle when he tried to open the beer cooler Thursday but it was locked. She said he told her since he couldn’t get in the cooler he was hungry “and took two bags of chips and told her to call the police before walking out.” Once in the parking lot**,** she said he knocked on the window then opened the bags of chips and threw them on the ground, then “continued to throw the coats and ask tray around” before leaving.

Beer run: Employees claimed a man walked out of Mr. Fuel Thursday with four tall cans of Bud Light he didn’t pay for. They were able to recover the beer but advised police they wanted to pursue charges anyway. The male also allegedly threatened to slap both officers officers who responded to the call. Police said Joseph M. Roux, 46, Quaker City, was booked into the county jail without bond on charges of menacing and theft.

Cat killed: A resident in the 1300 block of Wellesley told police Thursday she found her cat lying at the bottom of her porch steps with a possible gunshot wound to its head. She said neighbors told her they didn’t see or hear anything during the night.

Stolen stamp: A notary at Schiappa Library discovered a backup stamp he doesn’t currently use had been stolen Thursday. He said Adena police contacted him about a document in their possession that had been stamped with it but lacked his signature. After checking his records, he advised he didn’t notarize it. Nothing else is currently believed missing.

Ran: Two men in a black Kia Niro fled a traffic stop in the 800 block of Market Street Thursday. Police said the driver sped through traffic lights and stop signs, swerved in and out of traffic lanes, passed other vehicles illegally and exceeded the posted speed limit. The pair managed to get to the bridge and crossed into West Virginia, so police dropped the pursuit.
