Public displays: A disturbance was reported in the 1400 block of Oregon Avenue Monday. A female said her teenage daughter was upset because she was "kissing her significant other" in front of her and "she does not like it." The two of them argued, but mom arranged for the girl to spend the night with her older sister.
Booked: A city resident ended up in custody after an employee at Sunoco reported he was causing a disturbance Monday. The clerk wanted a report filed and the man trespassed from the property. When they asked the man what had happened, he advised he "felt as if the clerk ignored him and waited on other customers before him," which led to an argument.
Because he was being trespassed from the property, police said they had to have his name and date of birth for their report, but he balked at providing the information and instead started walking away. When they told him he wasn't free to leave, police said he continued to walk away, allegedly breaking into a run when they warned him he was going to be charged. Police said they took him into custody by the railroad tracks.
James Mayo, 53, 720 N. 7th St., Apt. B7, was held without bond on charges of obstructing justice and resisting arrest, police said.
A resident in the 500 block of N. 6th Street told police Tuesday people have been seen "going through a hole in the fence" to hang out at the old Split Rail Feed and Seed property. Police located three individuals in a shed at the rear of the property. All were told they needed to leave and would be subject to arrest if they return.
Love tapped: A caller claimed to have seen a mother smack her child with a shoe outside Walmart Monday, but she left before police could get there and it wasn't captured on camera. An employee said she'd seen a young girl crying outside along the wall and the mother "lightly tapped" her arm with a shoe. She said the child didn't appear to be in distress and the two left on a SVERTA bus.
Walk in: A caller said someone was in a residence in the 200 block of N. 7th Street Monday that's supposed to be vacant. Police said they found the man in the basement and he told them he "found the door unlocked and came inside," even though he didn't have permission from the owner to be there. He was warned for trespassing and advised not to return.
Warrant served: James Acconcia, 60, 92 Basil Dr., Weirton, misdemeanor theft warrant (Monday).
An Aberdeen Road resident cited four days previously for dog at large is facing an additional charge after a neighbor submitted a time-stamped photo of the animals on his property Saturday. Police said the dogs had been "deemed a nuisance" after the July 22 complaint. Court records show he also was cited for the same offense in March and had failed to appear. Police said the current information was forwarded to the city prosecutor.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 431 Union Ave., 1506 Foster Place, 1244 Wellesley and 1315 Oregon Ave., all for high grass, and 1509 Foster Place for a couch in the front yard.
Police said a homeowner at 449 Westwood Dr. also was advised to make arrangements for another city-issued garbage can after several bags of garbage were left out for pickup that had not been placed inside their existing can. Police said the bags weren't torn that day when they visited, but neighbors advised the homeowner typically puts bags out late at night and by morning animals have been in them and made a mess.
