Scary stuff: Police on Thursday responded to the home of a 6-year-old child allegedly attempting to harm siblings, including an infant. The child, who previously had been reported to have suicidal ideations, harming animals and threatening family members, was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
Fare fight: A cab driver and her fare both were cited after a dispute over whether adding a destination outside city limits warranted a higher fare Friday. After picking up three passengers, they told the driver they wanted to go to the dispensary. When the female fare learned it would cost more because the dispensary is outside city limits, she became upset. The driver said the woman began using slurs directed at her, so she told the passengers to get out. The driver alleged the woman then picked up a stick and “began yelling while approaching the vehicle,” prompting her to grab a machete to defend herself, “but did not swing it or make contact with the female.” Police said there was a large stick on the ground near the vehicle, and the male passenger showed them a video of the driver “arguing back and forth with (the female fare) in the roadway.” Police said the female fare continued to be argumentative while they were speaking with her. Cited for disorderly conduct were Cheryl Barrett, 64, 316 Terrace Ave., Steubenville, and Reagan Buzzard, 23, 1212 Lincoln Ave., Steubenville.
Punch drunk: Police were told a city resident was intoxicated and “acting belligerent/violent” with his housemates Friday and tried to punch a male member of the household. The man allegedly targeted was able to block the blow and responded by striking the intoxicated man in the face. The intoxicated man claimed his housemates were responsible for the altercation and told police the argument started when he discovered the female resident was “messaging other men.”
Break: A resident in the 700 block of Pine Street reported someone threw a pool ball through her window Saturday. The caller said someone hit her house and banged on her door three times overnight, with the final incident resulting in the broken window.
Booked: James Edward Fruit, 49, 1439 Belleview Blvd., domestic violence (Friday).
Driver served, passenger charged: Jared Wymer, 43, 310 Mound St., Tiltonsville, was served with a Municipal Court warrant for misdemeanor theft as well as a Belmont County warrant. His passenger, Robert Fisher, 25, 210 Cleveland St., Rayland, was charged with allegedly possessing drug paraphernalia, a drug pipe. Fisher denied the pipe was his, but police said it was on the seat where he had been sitting.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to the owners or occupants of properties at 413 Henry Ave., 205 Canterbury Blvd., 701 Rosswell Ave., 221 Paddy Mudd Road, 503 Union Ave., 301 Union Ave. and 1117 State St., all for high grass. A notice also was sent for 211 State St. for litter and household trash on the porch and in the yard, as well as high grass.
