STEUBENVILLE POLICE
Relationship blues: A woman told police an intoxicated male was "trying to break down the bedroom door" Sunday. Dispatchers reported hearing the man "trying to get through the door and screaming at her." When police entered the residence, they said he "ran through the hallway and slammed into the bedroom door," but they ordered him to the ground at Taser-point. After he was handcuffed, the female came out and sat next to him "to allow him to smoke a cigarette." Police said the male did seem to be under the influence of alcohol and admitted to drinking "the last couple hours." He said they'd been living together for several years and have a child in common, but the relationship "is failing and an argument had started (that day) about (her) lying and causing problems." He said he just wanted to get in the room to talk with her and that it was his house. Police said he had several small scrapes on his face, his forehead and by his eye and a mark on the side of his neck, which he said resulted from her "attacking him and scratching his face." The female told police if he had scrapes and marks, it "must have been from him trying to get through the door." She confirmed there was no physical altercation and any damage done was to his own property, and she'd only called because he was intoxicated and she "just wanted him to stop." Neither of them wanted to pursue charges.
Drug charges filed: Two men were taken into custody Monday after authorities allegedly found cocaine and fentanyl in a Terri Avenue home. Booked were Jerry Crossland Jr., 32, 390 Terri Ave., Steubenville, charged in Municipal Court with having weapons under disability, possessing drugs and probation violation, and Anthony Hawkins, 33, 162 Beacon Dr., Weirton, charged with possessing drugs and probation violation. Detectives with the Jefferson County Drug Task Force allegedly seized cocaine, fentanyl, cash and a firearm from the property.
Ankle biter: A woman leaving a store in the 200 block of N. 4th Street told police a small brown dog on a leash "jumped up and bit her on her hip" Tuesday. She said the dog's teeth broke her skin and caused her pants to fall down, but the dog's owner left without apologizing. Police said they could see a small red mark and the skin was broken, but said the victim was able to take a picture of the vehicle and its plate as it left. They traced the dog's owner to an Oregon Avenue location and said she denied her dog bit anyone. They told her animal control would stop by the next day.
Surprise: A man managing a family property said Tuesday someone moved in after they acquired it. He said when he got to the residence to clean it, there was a male inside and when he told him he needed to leave, the man claimed "he needs more time to pack his belongings and move out." He said no one was living there when they purchased the property and it doesn't have electricity or running water. Police said the man wasn't there when they were called, but "it was obvious someone was trying to live inside the residence."
No relief: Lincoln Avenue property owners wanted a woman removed from their property Tuesday, but police told them the tenant had established residency and would need to be evicted. Not long after, the tenant reached out, claiming she went to the residence to grab some items she needed for work and was threatened. She claimed the landlords "told her never to come back and if she returned they would hurt her." They told the tenant she had established residency and would have to be properly evicted.
Frustrated ex: A mother said her ex dropped their kids off at her house, then "entered the residence uninvited and they began to argue," and he eventually threw a vape at her, leaving a small red mark on her leg.
Not satisfied: A Broadway Boulevard resident said he paid a $1,400 deposit to have two storm doors installed at his residence Monday, but "the front door...does not work properly and was installed wrong." He said he's tried contacting the employee who came to his home and gave him an estimate as well as the installer, but neither has responded.
Fraud: An officer in another Ohio jurisdiction reported a fraudulent charge on an Amazon account belonging to a citizen in that community Monday. He said an item was ordered and sent to a Steubenville location.
Cyclist v. car: A motorist said a kid riding his bike on N. 6th Street tried to cross Ross Street and struck the side of her car Tuesday. A pedestrian who saw it confirmed the motorist's account. The child was transported to Trinity West for treatment.
No foundation: Police checked the area of Kendall Avenue at Roosevelt after someone reported hearing shots fired Tuesday. Nothing was found. Likewise, a report of shots fired in the 1500 block of Oregon Avenue Monday also could not be substantiated.
Enough already: A city resident said she's been having issues with her ex-boyfriend's old girlfriend for years, but the frequency has suddenly picked up. She said the ex is threatening harm to her.
Returned with backups: A clerk at a business in the 100 block of S. 7th Street said he argued Tuesday with a customer causing a disturbance who left, but came back with two friends and then "began threatening him." The clerk said there was another brief confrontation before they left.
Bothered: A resident reported being harassed by a former friend Monday. The caller said the individual "keeps talking negative about (their former friendship) on social media, trying to bate" the caller into a fight.
Stolen: Someone stole a power washer off the front porch of a home in the 1400 block of Oregon Avenue Tuesday. The homeowner said it was a Sun Joe model valued at $189.
Booked: Jessica Ash, 41, 1175 County Road 28, Wintersville, probation violation (Tuesday).
Cited: James Collins, 20, Santa Paula, Calif., and Michael Serevicz, 66, 3040 Pleasant Ave., Wellsburg, both speeding (school zone); Dorothea M. Snyder, 42, 124 Schwartz St., Apt. 1, Weirton, and Petera Robinson, 713 Market St., Apt. H, Steubenville, both cited for speeding; Douglas R. Spencer, 72, 111 Benmar Ave., Mingo Junction, passing left of center; Brianna N. Fuller, 25, 1320 Wellesley Ave., Steubenville, driving under suspension; Jadin Shackleford, 19, 947 Sherman Ave., Steubenville, driving under suspension; and Autumn L. Morrow, 38, Daniels Street, Toronto, assured clear distance ahead and expired operator's license Tuesday after allegedly rear-ending a westbound vehicle on University Boulevard at Franciscan Way.
Towed: A Chevy Silverado parked in the 100 block of McDowell that hadn't moved; a Toyota Sienna and a Volkswagen Jetta parked in the 500 block of Madison Avenue with expired plates.
