Covering costs
With Breast Cancer Awareness Month under way, the WMC Auxiliary is covering the cost of a special treatment for breast cancer patients in need. The auxiliary will pay for patients who need lymphedema index testing but are not be able to afford it. Lymphedema is a complication of breast surgery. It can’t be prevented, but early identification can lead to successful treatment. WMC uses an L-Dex machine, which helps to identify fluid buildup in the arm before it becomes apparent to the patient or the patient’s doctor. Accepting a check from Sondra Weigel of the auxiliary, right, is breast surgeon Dr. Carol Slomski. Slomski and her team encourage women to make a mammogram appointment today. For an appointment, call (304) 797-6433.
