TRANTO

STEUBENVILLE — Dr. Maria N. Tranto has been named as new medical director at the Laurels of Steubenville.

A Weirton native, Tranto attended Youngstown State University and graduated with honors with a combined science degree. She earned her doctoral degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2000 where she also trained in the philosophy that the body is a unit mind, body, and spirit.

She completed her internal medicine residency program at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, where she was also awarded best primary care resident.

Tranto is board certified in internal medicine, with specialized care for adults and elderly. She maintained her own private practice in Weirton for 10 years. During that time, she became certified as a medical review officer and was employed as a “Mill Doc” for ArcelorMittal and the former Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. Subsequently, she went on to work at Harrison Community Hospital in Cadiz and Scio.

Currently, Tranto is employed by Trinity Health System. She enjoys teaching medical students and maintains Clinical Faculty status at WVSOM.

Tranto was honored with the Primary Care Outstanding Preceptor Award by WVSOM students, voted “Best of the Best” internist by the Herald-Star numerous times, invented and holds the patent for the first maternity lab coat and is completing a children’s book.

She is married with two children and serves as a youth director and Sunday School teacher at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Weirton and is a member of Philoptochos.

“I am honored to continue to serve patients locally and to maintain the Laurel’s mission of caring for our guests with respect, dignity and compassion whether a short term or long term stay,” Tranto said.

Tranto will provide daily rounding at the Laurels and is the only local physician who provides the unique service.
