STEUBENVILLE -- The Center for Criminal Justice, Law, and Ethics at Franciscan University of Steubenville will offer two continuing education courses for the law enforcement and legal community.
Aquinas on Crime, to be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 9, examines how the genius of Thomas Aquinas influenced society and even America's Founding fathers with his ideas on law, criminal culpability, crimes against the person, offenses involving the judicial process, public morality, justice, sentencing, punishment and more.
Aquinas on Crime is led by Charles Nemeth, director of the university's criminal justice program and the author of more than 50 books on criminal justice and law enforcement.
Less-Lethal Options in Use of Force will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 10 and is intended for police officers, correctional personnel and other sectors of the law enforcement community. The seminar examines the evolution of the use of force and less-lethal weapons, the place of less-lethal tactics in the overall force management plan, legal implications, demonstrations of less-lethal techniques and more. It will be led by former police Chief Edward Bogats, a member of the university's criminal justice program faculty.
