WASHINGTON, Pa. -- In January of 2021, Scott and Christa Harden officially became the new owners of Kurtz Monument Company, a headstone engraving and monument building company that was established in 1905. Scott and Christa also brought in their daughter, Savannah Boatwright (Harden), and her husband, Jarred Boatwright, to help the business transition smoothly through the change in ownership.

"None of us had a background in or experience in monument sales or monument building," Scott explained. "We saw Kurtz as an opportunity to be involved in our local community and the surrounding areas. We want to give back as much as we can." The Hardens have made a commitment to give back at least 10 percent of the company's profits to the local community.

As a family, the Hardens understand the grieving process that happens after losing a loved one. They wanted the company's new slogan, "When You're Ready...", to reflect that they understand what their customers are going through and are more than willing to give them the patience and reassurance that they need during a difficult time. "Our job is not to make this process harder for them," Jarred Boatwright explained. "We want to make it as honest and smooth as possible."

Savannah Boatwright mentioned, "My favorite part about working at Kurtz is our customers. I love hearing the stories and life experiences that their loved ones or they themselves have had. It really helps us to know some of those personal details when it comes time to design the monument."
