Follansbee chiropractor moves to mentor’s office

Warren Scott NEW BUT FAMILIAR — The Follansbee Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome chiropractor Sara Furioli to her new office at 1014 Main St. It’s a familiar location for Furioli because it was the office for many years of her mentor, Dr. Terri Geary, who has moved from this area.

FOLLANSBEE — Taking a seat in an examination room at her new location at 1014 Main St. (state Route 2), local chiropractor Sara Furioli noted the first time she stepped into the office was as a patient.

Furioli said after injuring her back as a student competing in the shot put event for her school’s track team, she came to see Dr. Terri Geary in the same chiropractic office.

“I just fell in love with the whole profession,” said Furioli, who added, “I love working with people, being able to help them feel better.”

A 1997 graduate of Brooke High School, Furioli went on to earn a bachelor’s of science degree at West Liberty University and a doctor of chiropractor degree from Cleveland University-Kansas City in Missouri.

Following graduation, she opened a chiropractic office in Wellsburg for a few years until her attention turned to helping her family to care for her ill father, Bill.

After his death in 2013, Furioli went to work with Geary until one day, her mentor told her she planned to move to Oklahoma and asked if she would like to take over the office.

She noted Geary gave her all of its equipment and furniture, making for a very smooth transition.

Courtney McKinney and Kathy Beatty followed Furioli from her Wellsburg office where they had worked as chiropractic assistant and secretary, respectively.

At the Follansbee office, Furioli offers low-force chiropractic techniques as well as acupuncture.

She said when many think of chiropractic treatment, they think of back pain, but she and others in the field are trained to address pain in many areas of the body, including elbows, wrists, feet and toes.

“Everything in the body with a joint, we work on,” she said.

Furioli said she tries to offer flexible hours for appointments, which can be made by calling (304) 527-0002.
