Students at JVS complete online TECS program

BLOOMINGDALE — Auto service technology students at Jefferson County Joint Vocational School have officially completed online training in the TECS program.

Technician Education College Support supplements the existing school curriculum and helps students interested in a career with Toyota or Lexus gain a head start in their training. The program is available to post-secondary automotive programs as well as secondary programs but is limited to participants16 and older. Those who complete the courses qualify to become a Lexus Certified Technician or a Toyota Maintenance Level Certified Technician.

AST Instructor Ron Reasoner said seniors finished all 10 online learning modules of the course which cover the areas of general maintenance and light repair and now have greater abilities to work with Toyota vehicles.

“These courses give students insights specific to performing maintenance practices on Toyota automobiles,” Reasoner added. “Industry credentials gained in this course are lifelong, without expiration, and are valuable in seeking employment with Toyota Motors. Once a student is employed at a Toyota new car dealership, they would have the opportunity to continue education on this platform to become a Toyota master automotive technician.”

He said the TECS program runs along with the AST format and allows students to delve more into company vehicles and its maintenance practices. TECS is currently in its second year at the school and more students are anticipated to take part.

“This year, we have 16 in the junior class who will participate, and they should be finished with the general maintenance section before the December holiday break,” Reasoner noted.
