WEIRTON — The Hancock County Democratic Executive Committee is hosting a “True Blue” chicken blast on Wednesday at the Serbian Picnic Grounds located on Kings Creek Road.
A social hour will begin at 5 p.m. with dinner to follow.
“We are pleased to be hosting the picnic for the second year,” said Donna Gialluco, committee chairman. The committee will provide the chickens, but attendees are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.
Reservations are required. For information or to RSVP by Tuesday, contact Gialluco at (304) 670-3562; George Ash at (304) 670-5003; Kathy Link at (724) 544-6063 or John Jackson at (304) 794-9559.
“The 2018 election is an off-year election; however, it is still important to the residents of Hancock County, Gialluco said. “We are inviting all candidates who will be seeking an office in November 2018 to join us. A picnic is a very informal gathering and allows voters to speak with candidates one-on-one,” she said.
Sunday gathering to recruit humane foundation volunteers
NEW CUMBERLAND — They’re seen throughout towns and the countryside, in back allies and running across highways.
Volunteers interested in how they can help homeless and feral cats are encouraged to attend a “TNR Cat Chat” that will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Spicy Gringo’s, 206 American Way, Weirton, near Weirton Medical Center behind Ruff Creek Market.
The gathering is being sponsored by the Hancock County Humane Foundation, which, according to Thomas Goff, foundation vice president, is “a leader in local projects that bring hope to homeless cats and kittens in need.”
The human foundation and co-cat organizations are seeking volunteers to help with local Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) efforts. It has expanded its community efforts to help solve the homeless cat problems with cat clinics and TNR programs.
“The most important thing we need is volunteers,” Goff noted. “This year alone the foundation has fixed more than 50 cats with community efforts at local cat hot spots throughout Hancock County. More TNR efforts and clinics are planned next year, but help is needed. For information, call (412) 431-7998.
