'Taking the Lead' breakfast
series kicks off new year
with presentation Wednesday
STEUBENVILLE -- The YWCA of Steubenville will continue with its "Taking the Lead" breakfast series, kicking off the new year with an inspirational presentation by local resident Jamie Copenhaver-Cribbs, according to YWCA Executive Director Sophie Spencer.
It will be held Wednesday at the YWCA, located at 320 N. Fourth St., beginning at 8 a.m. The cost is $20, and reservations can be made by calling (740) 282-1261.
"Jamie started out her working life as a middle school art teacher, transitioning rather quickly into graphic arts where she spent a number of years working as a graphic designer in the trade show industry in Atlanta," a news release from the YWCA notes. "Once back in the Ohio Valley, she 'stumbled' into benefits administration and worked for several large employers managing employee benefits before starting her own benefits administration business in 2013," it continues. She and her husband, Craig, own and operate ReSo Inc. in Mingo Junction where they also reside.
Copenhaver-Cribbs is a member of the local BNI chapter (Tri-State Referrals), the Mingo Revitalization Committee, the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, the Jefferson Township (Pa.) Historical Society and the Ohio Valley Business and Professional Women. She also is a board member of the United Way of Jefferson County.
"Jamie has a strong belief in giving back and recently went on a mission trip to Guatemala which opened her eyes and heart in ways she hadn't anticipated," the news release continues. "Jamie will share with us her heart-opening experience and provide her perspective on living a life of giving in a time where we are all stretched extremely thin."
"Join us to kick off the New Year with an inspirational message," Spencer said.
The initial program of the "Taking the Lead" series was held May 3. "This is a series of seminars for women entrepreneurs, women in senior management or women who want to start or are starting a business," Spencer explained previously.
The first series featured Beth Caldwell, author, motivational speaker and founder of the Leadership Academy for Women in Pittsburgh. She gave a presentation on her book "From Frantic to Focused: How to Shift Your Life from Out-of-Control to Streamlined and Successful."
Her talk was followed by a panel discussion by women who have made an impact in business in the region. The participants were Tricia Maple, president of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce; Gloria Popp, Mary Kay sales director; and Stephanie Rivers, president, UPS Store, Steubenville.
"The reason we're doing 'Taking the Lead' is that we want to support women in business, women business owners, women in senior management, women who are interested in starting a business. We're offering them the support that they need in order to be emotionally and economically self-sufficient," Spencer had said.
East Springfield Cemetery
Association meeting Jan. 5
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- The East Springfield Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 10 a.m. on Jan. 5 in the fellowship hall of the Christ United Methodist Church in East Springfield.
All residents of the community are invited to attend and participate with questions, comments, concerns or recommendations regarding the operation, management or maintenance of the cemetery, according to an association representative.

WEIRTON -- Members of the Weir High School Class of 1970 will hold their "New Year's" meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Mario's Restaurant, 3806 Main St. All classmates and spouses are welcome to attend.
Jewett VFD to host
fundraiser dinner
JEWETT -- The Jewett Volunteer Fire Department will host a fundraiser baked steak and baked meatloaf dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 13. The menu will include salad bar, bread, dessert and beverage. The meal cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children.
Veterans satellite office
to be open in Dillonvale
STEUBENVILLE -- The satellite office of the Jefferson County Veterans Service Commission will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Dillonvale City Building, 135 School St., Dillonvale, to assist veterans, dependents of veterans and/or veterans' widows with Veterans Administration pensions, compensations, burials, schooling, medical assistance and other veteran's benefits.
For information or assistance, call the Veterans Service Office at (740) 283-8571 or visit the office at Suite 310, 500 Market St. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The office is closed at noon on the second Wednesday of the month for a board meeting.
