calendars are available
CADIZ -- The 2019 Harrison Coal and Reclamation Historical Park Inc. calendars are available for purchase and feature Hanna Coal and Consol coal tipples from the 1930s through the 1970s.
The first tipple featured will be the "E" tipple located west of Georgetown, Ohio, which in the early 1940s was the railroad siding that off-loaded the "A" (The Tiger), "B" (Green Hornet) shovels and approximately 3 miles west, "The Mountaineer" in 1945-55. Other tipples featured are Willow Grove, Dun Glenn, Piney Fork, Oak Park, Rose Valley, Franklin Hi-Wall, Glenn Castle and mined in the 1930s, Lafferty Mine and Crabapple.
Calendars are $13, which include shipping. They also will be available locally at the Puskarich Public Library and the Harrison County Visitors Center next to the court house. Checks or money orders should be made payable to HCRHP and mailed to Dale Davis, 800 North 13th St., Cambridge, OH 43725.
"Photos are hard to come by, and the calendars have become collector's items over the years," a spokesperson noted of the calendar project that began in 2011. Past calendars include the Mountaineer Marion 60E in 2011, still available at $13; the Gem of Egypt Bucyrus-Erie 1950-B in 2012, which sold out; Hanna Coal early years (1939-41) in 2013, still available at $13; the Tiger Marion 5561 "A" in 2014, still available at $13; the Silver Spade Bucyrus-Erie 1950-B in 2015, still available at $15; the Bucyrus-Erie 550-B in 2016, available at $13; the Georgetown Preparation Plant in 2017, available at $13; and the Green Hornet Marion 5561 "B" in 2018, available at $13.
All calendars have at least 12 different photos. All prices include shipping. "These make excellent gift and collector's items, the spokesperson noted. "They are done each year as a money-making project for the HCRHP and to preserve Ohio's mining heritage."
