Farmers' Winter Breakfast
Series runs January to April
WINTERSVILLE -- Ohio State University Extension will host a Farmers' Breakfast Series in Wintersville every third Friday from January to April with the next session on Jan. 18.
Each session will run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and will cover farm management topics for local producers and provide opportunities for networking with local farmers, agencies and industry experts.
The 2018 schedule for the remaining sessions of the series is as follows:
– Jan. 18, Murrays Restaurant, Wintersville
"Land Values and Negotiating Rents" will be presented by Erika Lyon, Ohio State University Extension agriculture and natural resources educator.
"Thinking of leasing land to a neighbor for hay production? Or maybe renting land to raise livestock? Or maybe you already have a land rental agreement. Whatever the situation," Lyons notes, "understanding what influences land values, and subsequently leasing rates, is important when working on a rental agreement." The session will cover these questions.
– Feb. 15, Murrays Restaurant, Wintersville
"Reading a Natural Gas Royalty Check" will be the topic for participants to learn about reading and understanding natural gas royalty checks. Guest speakers Mark Landefeld, ag and natural resources educator from Monroe County, and Dan Lima, ag and natural resources educator from Belmont County, will talk about some of the resources available to landowners reviewing their checks. Participants are encouraged to bring any questions they have.
– March 15, Murrays Restaurant, Wintersville
"What Distressed Watersheds Mean for Jefferson County" will be the topic.
A watershed in distress is a watershed whose overall health has been deemed impaired from excessive nutrient runoff from agricultural land uses. "We have heard this term used a lot over the last year in regards to northwestern Ohio, but what does this mean for counties along the Ohio River?" a news release notes.
Join OSU Extension and the Jefferson Soil & Water Conservation District for a discussion about the implications of the northwestern Ohio Watershed in distress and what landowners in Jefferson County need to be concerned about.
– April 19, Murrays Restaurant, Wintersville
"What You Need to Know about Farm Liability" will be presented by Peggy Kirk Hall, Ohio State University ag law specialist. She will discuss what landowners in Ohio need to know about liability and mitigating risk on their property. "You are likely liable for a lot more than you think," a release notes.
There is no cost for the series presentations and discussions, but participants will cover their own breakfast costs. Pre-registration is required.
