VFW in Weirton having
fundraiser event Saturday
WEIRTON -- The Veterans of Foreign Wars will host a fundraiser spaghetti dinner from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the hall, located at 3435 Main St.
Spaghetti with meatballs or meat sauce, salad, bread and butter, dessert and two beverages are included in the $7 ticket, along with five opportunities to win $500 based on Saturday's WV Daily 3.
The event also will include a 50/50 drawing, a Chinese auction and various drawings. Following the dinner will be DJ Mena for dancing and entertainment.
"The public is invited to spend the evening with us and support our veterans," a spokesperson noted.
Harrison historical calendars
are available for purchase
CADIZ -- The Harrison Coal and Reclamation Historical Park 2019 calendars are ready and available at the Puskarich Public Library on Market Street or at the Harrison County Visitor Center, located at 143 S. Main St.
The calendars feature Hannah Coal/Consol Coal tipples from the 1930s through the 1970s. Some tipples are the "E" tipple west of Georgetown, Ohio, the Willow Grove, Dun Glenn, Piney Fork, Oak Park, Rose Valley, Franklin-Hi-Wall, Glenn Castle, Lafferty Mine and Crabapple.
The Harrison County Tourism Council sponsored this year's calendars. The cost is $10 each, and if mailed, add $3 for shipping and handling.

to meet Saturday
HOPEDALE -- The United Mine Workers of America Local 1304 will hold a regular meeting on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at Capraro's Restaurant in Hopedale.
Steubenville Saddle Club
banquet rescheduled
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Saddle Club will hold its 2018 awards banquet on March 23 at the Four Seasons Community Center, which is located in the former Pleasant Hill Elementary School on state Route 213.
It had been scheduled for Jan. 19 but was canceled because of inclement weather.
.Doors open at 5 p.m., and the dinner begins at 6 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and a dessert and a small gift for the exchange.

Mingo Lions Club earns
award, planning events
MINGO JUNCTION -- The Mingo Lions Club held their January dinner meeting at the residence of Jeff Schuetz with President William Snyder presiding.
The opening prayer was given by Dr. William Johns. The pledge of allegiance to the flag followed.
Reports were given by Clara Sue Milewsky and Jim Freiling.
Johns gave a report on the food baskets that were given for Christmas.
Terry Snyder and Lois D'Alesio attended a five-hour vision screening class held in Tallmadge, Ohio. They are now certified for three years.
A letter was received from Lions Club International, noting the club has earned the Membership Satisfaction Award because of its "hard work during the 2017-18 Lions year." In appreciation of that, the club was presented with a fiscal year patch to place below the membership satisfaction banner patch earned by the club last year.
Discussion was held on 2019 events the club will be hosting. Members recycled. The next zone meeting will be held Feb. 26. The Brilliant Lions Club will serve as hosts. Johns led the closing prayer.
The next meeting will be held Feb. 20 at Schuetz's residence. He will be the caller.
Weirton Elks plan wine-tasting
fundraiser for Feb. 16
WEIRTON -- The Weirton Elks will be holding a wine-tasting fundraiser event at the Weirton Elks Lodge, 3429 Main St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Feb. 16.
The Tri-State Winemakers Club will provide wine and homemade beer. The cost is $15 per person and includes finger foods. A Chinese auction also will be part of the event.

WEIRTON -- Neon Knights will perform on Feb. 7 with music from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Greater Weirton Senior Citizens Center at 3425 Main St.

retirees meet for lunch
STEUBENVILLE -- Twenty-one retirees of Steubenville City Schools met Jan. 10 for lunch at Naples Spaghetti House.
A thank-you card was passed around from one of the recipients of the Christmas charity.
The next lunch will be held Feb. 14 at The Ville.
