Weirton library program
Thursday on Tuskegee Airmen
WEIRTON -- Upcoming events at the Mary H. Weir Public Library include a presentation on the Tuskegee Airmen in observance of Black History Month.
The speaker for the Thursday program will be Ambrose Bolling of Weirton, who has been researching the Tuskegee Airmen for many years. He also has attended their conventions, met many of them and is a member of the Ohio Memorial Chapter in Columbus.
The presentation will begin at 6 p.m. in the library's activity room with access on the Walnut Street side.
Also planned:
≤ The library is beginning a group for word game enthusiasts. The first meeting will focus on Scrabble but may branch out to other similar games, depending on the interests of the membership. The group is designed for adults and will be open to players 16 and up.
The group will meet in the library's activity room. The first meeting will be held Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m.
≤ The library's book discussion group will meet at 11 a.m. on March 9. Up for discussion will be "The Invention of Wings" by Sue Monk Kidd. New members and visitors are always welcome.
Budgeting class planned
for veterans on Feb. 26
STEUBEVILLE -- The Veterans Service Office of Jefferson County will be offering a financial budgeting class to Jefferson County veterans.
The Feb. 26 presentation will be provided by PNC Bank and conducted on the second floor of the Towers Building at 500 Market St. It will begin at 2 p.m.
Class seating is limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Those interested in participating should contact the office at (740) 283-8571 to reserve a seat.
The purpose is to help veterans with making and executing a budget to better use their income and boost their savings, according to Schelley Brooks, executive director.
"This is the first time we are offering such a class. Our office has a financial assistance program that is based on emergent need," Brooks said. "We are offering it to all Jefferson County veterans on a first-come, first-served basis, with the hopes that they will take advantage of this opportunity at no cost to them."
Brooks said the office is always looking for ways to assist veterans. "We have had requests in the past for such services. We just now have the opportunity and the connections to make it happen."
The class will be interactive with audience participation encouraged. "They are the financial experts and will be there to answer questions and pass on their expertise to those in attendance," Brooks said.
Oak Glen Cheerfest is
scheduled for March 9
NEW MANCHESTER -- Oak Glen High School cheerleaders will be hosting a Cheerfest for preschool to eighth-graders on March 9.
"Cheerfest is a fun-filled educational day of cheerleading," a spokesperson noted. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oak Glen High School gymnasium with a performance and awards ceremony at 2:30 p.m. for family.
The cost is $35 for each child attending. Those attending must bring a packed lunch, and those who register no later than Feb. 20 will receive a free Cheerfest T-shirt. Cheering items will be on sale before and after the Cheerfest for cash-only purchases.

Free card program offered
March 1 at the Carriage House
STEUBENVILLE -- The Carriage House at 3106 St. Charles Drive will celebrate the approach of spring by hosting a free program by Ellen Barner of Ellen's Grateful Stampers.
Barner will help participants create spring cards on March 1, beginning at 2 p.m. The event is free to the community, and refreshments will be provided, according to Nancy Felton, community director of marketing for Capital Health. Wellsburg Moose Lodge site
of fundraiser set for March 2
WELLSBURG -- The Wellsburg Moose Lodge will host a spaghetti dinner and benefit March 2 for Jayden Bradley, an area 7-year-old who was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and is undergoing treatment at Akron Children's Hospital.
The dinner will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. There is a $10 donation for adults and a $5 donation for children. Patrons will receive a plate of spaghetti, meatball, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. There also will be a 50-50 drawing and a Chinese auction.
The event is to help support Jayden, his mother Marina and brother Easton during his treatment and therapy, according to a promotional flyer.
