Jobs for Life info session set for tonight
STEUBENVILLE — An informational session on the Jobs for Life program will be held tonight at the War Memorial Building, 423 North St., beginning at 5:30 p.m.
It is open to anyone in the community who wants to learn more about the Jobs for Life program, according to Kelly Jeffers, Urban Mission Ministries’ director of new initiatives and Jobs for Life site leadership. Light refreshments will be available.
Jobs for Life is a ministry of discipleship where men and women learn a theology of work, Jeffers explained. Jobs for Life is a curriculum based off of Biblical principles that teach people about their identity in Christ, what their gifts and talents are and how to use them in practical application in life and employment.
Each class has no more than 10 people at once. The structure is 16 sessions in eight weeks, with two classes per week and a closing graduation ceremony. At that time, students have completed strict graduation requirements, including homework, job searches and resume building. Upon graduation, they receive their Jobs for Life Certificate.
Jobs for Life is a nationally recognized and globally utilized ministry in more than 300 cities and nine countries. Students come from all walks of life, but are usually people who face significant challenges to entering the workforce.
“Things such as criminal records, lack of education and chronic unemployment are all addressed in the JFL program but do not exclude anyone from being a part of the classes,” according to Jeffers. “We recruit students from our agency and local agencies as well. Currently we are partnering with the CAC and local churches to see who we can connect with,” she added.
The program offers a number of volunteer opportunities, which also will be explained.
