Monarch butterfly to be topic

Thursday for Newview CEOS

NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Newview Community Educational Outreach Service will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hancock County Senior Center for a light luncheon followed by a lesson and brief business meeting.

This month's lesson, presented by Virginia Lawrence, will be on the Monarch butterfly.

"The Monarch is one of the first butterflies we learn to identify as children and, at one time, was one of the most common," a news release notes. "Today its numbers are dwindling. This lesson will help us learn more about these little winged jewels, what they need to survive and how, by adding just one plant species to our gardens, we can help ensure that generations to come can continue to enjoy these butterflies."

The meeting is open to the public. There is no fee for the lesson, but the cost is $5 for those wanting lunch. For questions about the lesson, how to join the CEOS or how to start a CEOS group, contact the WVU Hancock County Extension Office at (304) 564-3805.
