to host steak night April 13
HOPEDALE -- The Hopedale American Legion Post at 48225 Rabbit Road is hosting a steak night on April 13.
It will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. while steaks last. The cost is $15. Patrons can dine in or get carryout.

Prostate cancer support
group to meet Wednesday
STEUBENVILLE -- The Trinity Prostate Cancer Support Group will hold its next gathering on Wednesday at the Tony Teramana Cancer Center, located at 3204 Johnson Road. It begins at 5 p.m.
Anyone with prostate cancer or who is concerned about the condition is encouraged to attend.
Frank McEwen of Toronto is the new facilitator for the group.
Gift bundle bingo fundraiser
April 12 to benefit ACS
STEUBENVILLE -- Team Cooper, one of the teams participating in the Jefferson County Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society, will be holding two fundraisers this month.
The first is a 10 percent donation night fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse in Steubenville from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday. Those who patronize the restaurant during that time will present a flier/invitation from any team member or show the server a picture of the flier from the Relay for Life Team Cooper Fundraiser Facebook post. Texas Roadhouse will donate 10 percent of total food purchases to the fundraiser.
Team Cooper also is having a gift bundle bingo on April 12 at the Stratton Municipal Building just off state Route 7 in Stratton. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bingo begins at 6:30 p.m.
A $25 donation includes 15 games of bingo. All prizes are gift bundles from direct sales vendors and brand name products, including Longaberger, Magnabilities, Origami Owl, Arbonne, Thirty-One, Color Street, Rae Dunn Vera Bradley, Pink Zebra, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, Avon and others. The winner of each bingo game will get his or her choice of remaining bundles.
There also will be a 50-50 drawing and a Chinese auction with snacks and beverages available for purchase.

Solo show under way for
Weirton photographer
WEIRTON -- The photographs of Weirton native and professional photographer Garen DiBartolomeo are featured in a solo show at the Parkersburg Art Center during April. The exhibit includes more than 50 of Garen's favorite images, chosen from a collection of personal work spanning five decades.
Each one features a particular moment in time, whether a fleeting emotion, the surprise of a smile, the subtle loneliness that may underlie a pretty place or simply the tricks played by light, shadow and reflection. "After years of taking pictures, I had a lot of images to choose from, both film and digital. It was quite a satisfying undertaking, like running into old friends who have never really strayed far from your mind," DiBartolomeo said.
DiBartolomeo, who did plan on being a professional photographer, studied international relations and journalism at West Virginia University. After graduation, his innate interest in photography, he noted, was energized by a nearly year-long backpacking adventure in Europe. When he returned with dozens of rolls of black and white film to process, he honed the technical craft of the darkroom, first learned in his single college photography course. Some of those early photos are in the Parkersburg show.
Today, DiBartolomeo shoots, processes and prints digitally, but still visualizes with the same thought processes he developed early on with film, he said.
Self-taught over the years, he became more proficient and ultimately made photography his profession, first in D.C., and Phoenix and later in Pittsburgh. On assignment, he's photographed presidents and corporate leaders, famous actors and ironworkers, gritty industrial sites and pristine laboratories. Throughout his career, he's been an active member of the American Society of Media Photographers, sharing his skills with many new photographers.
He's also exhibited his personal work in various national and local competitions and recently was included in the American Photographic Artists 2018 Awards Book for his "Portrait of a Geisha."
The exhibit -- "Praxis: A Fine Arts Approach" -- opened March 31 and will run through May 10 at the Parkersburg Art Center, 725 Market St., Parkersburg. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
VFW in Weirton to hold
weekly Friday fish frys
WEIRTON -- The Veterans of Foreign Wars Panhandle Post 2716 will be holding a Lenten fish fry on Fridays through April 19 at the post, located at 3435 Main St., Weirton.
The weekly dinners will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The menu will include fish, shrimp, slaw and fries. The dinners are open to the public.
