Scholarships, Summer Serenade topics for IACC
MINGO JUNCTION — The Italian American Cultural Club held its April dinner meeting at the Mingo Junction Knights of Columbus Hall in Mingo Junction, with the meal catered by Ohio Catering.
The club is holding its monthly meeting at different venues as part of deciding on a permanent meeting place for the group. The May meeting will be held at Le Chateau Pier in Smithfield, catered by Piergallini Catering; the June meeting at the St. Florian Event Center, catering by Undo’s; and the July meeting at Froehlich’s Classic Corner. The members were reminded to make a reservation for these meetings.
President Frankie DiCarlantonio announced that the $1,000 scholarships will be awarded at the May meeting. The recipients are:
≤ Joelle “Joey” Tarquinio, in memory of Teresa Zrinyi;
≤ Maia Talarico, in memory of Bob Ryan;
≤ Samantha Kaczmarek, in memory Augie Avoli;
≤ Carlo Recinella, in memory of Denise Manini; and
≤ Paul Carapellotti, in memory of Craig Petrella.
The club donates $600 yearly to a Christmas food bank. For 2019, $300 will be awarded to Mingo Social Services and $300 will be awarded to Smithfield Friends Church Food Pantry. The club also voted to award a $500 grant to the Ohio Valley Youth Network/Sycamore Youth Center and a $500 grant to the Dirty Vagabond Ministries. All recipients of these monies will be invited to the May meeting.
Tami Cashioli had applied for a $1,000 grant through the JB Green Team to be used for repairs at the Italian Village that hosts the club’s Italian camp held for children in June. The only amount that the club has to match for this grant is $125. The work will be completed in June.
Chairman Judy Krenzel reported on the Summer Serenade event that will be held Aug. 9 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Mingo Junction to the theme of “A Traditional Italian Wedding.” Louise and Steve Donofe have been chosen as “the bride and groom” with the wedding party consisting of Donna and John Balzano, Mariella and Camillo Pittera, Jane and Richard Antonucci, Tina and Todd Piergallini and Michele Fabbro.
Tickets are $40 for the event where the food will be catered by Ohio Catering. The Cavalier’s Band from Pittsburgh, along with Rick Pastre and Al Provenzano, will provide the entertainment.
The event committee consists of Theresa Coppa, Lucia Scaffidi, Donna Balzano, John Balzano, Carol Long, Maria Settepanella, James Provenzano, Doll Giralico, Andrea Yoho, Rita Costantini, Harry Costantini, Louise Donofe, Steve Donofe, Mariella Pittera, Camillo Pittera, Carol Almonte, Lou Almonte, Teresa Laman, Ed Laman, Vickie Nurczyk, Sabatino DiMarzo, Joann DeFranco, Mark DeFranco, Tami Cashioli, DiCarlantonio and Krenzel. This event is open to the public, and information can be obtained by contacting one of the committee members.
Lynn D’Anniballe was approved as a new member. She was sponsored by Mike Zinno.
The club has a new logo with T-shirts available for ordering.
April birthdays were celebrated at the meeting where the entertainment for the evening was provided by Nick Fiasco.
The winners for the night were Donna Shalvis, Theresa Coppa and Joe Loizzo.
