Register early for library's
summer reading club
STEUBENVILLE -- Register early for the summer reading club for the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County by visiting the library's Scholastic Book Fair at the Fort Steuben Mall and earn a chance to win a telescope.
"A Universe of Stories" summer reading club at the library begins June 10 for all ages. The library's Scholastic Book Fair will be held at the Fort Steuben Mall on June 6 and 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and June 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Other programs and activities planned at the library's vraious locations include:

Children: Play and Learn the Alphabet, for parents with children ages 2-6, will be Monday at 11 a.m. Children play with letter-learning toys to help with early literacy skills.
Adena Branch (740) 546-3782
Children: Babygarten, for parents with children birth to 2, will be on June 6 at 11:15 a.m. This is a lapsit program that includes stories, songs and rhymes to help babies with language development.
Play and Learn the Alphabet will be Monday at 11:15 a.m.

Children: Play and Learn the Alphabet will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday.
Cookbook Club will meet to discuss and sample recipes on June 6 at 5 p.m. Call to join and start cooking.

Adults: Get tech help to learn about library apps and learn how to download eBooks, magazines, movies and more is available on Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call for a 15-minute appointment.

Adults: Game Night for adults will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Stop in to play.
Local band to perform at
Brilliant American Legion
BRILLIANT -- Local band Xtremely Loaded will be performing at the Brilliant American Legion, 210 Market St., on Saturday.
The music starts at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 per person and $8 per couple.
The event is open to the public.
Veterans satellite office
to be open in Dillonvale
STEUBENVILLE -- The satellite office of the Jefferson County Veterans Service Commission will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at the Dillonvale City Building, 135 School St., Dillonvale, to assist veterans, dependents of veterans and/or veterans' widows with Veterans Administration pensions, compensations, burials, schooling, medical assistance and other veteran benefits.
For information or assistance, call the Veterans Service Office at (740) 283-8571 or visit the office in Suite 310 at 500 Market St., Steubenville. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. On the second Wednesday of the month, its closes at noon for a board meeting.
Antonio Meucci Lodge
learns about Never Alone
WEIRTON -- The Antonio Meucci (Sons of Italy) Lodge No. 2506 met May 14 at Undo's in Weirton, welcoming Patti Bernabei as the guest speaker.
Tony LaRosa read the invocation about Easter and honored all mothers for Mother's Day. Jim Cerra led the pledge of allegiance.
After dinner, Bernabei, founder of Never Alone, gave a brief presentation on the nonprofit organization focused on bringing awareness of issues related to addiction in the community. Bernabei introduced a man battling addiction many times who now serves as the director of Reckless Recovery, a home for men recovering from addiction. It is located on Pennsylvania Avenue in Weirton. President Regina Truax welcomed guests, including Gene Viola, Mary Ann DiFonzo, Angela Mazur and Laura Settepanella. She also introduced and welcomed new members Emily Waggle, Linda Heilma and Sue Sakara.
She announced that Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America is sponsoring a trip to Washington, D.C., for students on Aug. 1-4. The OSIA Lodge in Morgantown, she added, will be celebrating its 100th anniversary with an afternoon event, the cost of which is $25 per person.
Birthdays were acknowledged.

The Undo's gift certificates were won by Auggie Lellie and Barbara Cerra. The 50/50 was won by Gene Viola. Kroger gift cards were won by Rita Orler and Beverly DiBiase.

Jewett VFD to host
fundraiser dinner
JEWETT -- The Jewett Volunteer Fire Department will host a fundraiser homemade baked lasagna dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 9.
The meal includes salad, bread, dessert and beverage. The meal cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children.
Weir High Class of 1970
to meet on Wednesday
WEIRTON -- The Weir High School Class of 1970 will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday to select a date for the 50-year class reunion.
The meeting will be held at Mario's Restaurant, 3806 Main St., Weirton. All classmates are encouraged to attend and bring their ideas for the reunion.
