Bethany College
BETHANY -- An area resident is among the 17 incoming freshmen who have been awarded the Bethany College Presidential Scholarship.
Shelby Ferrell of Wellsburg was chosen to receive the annual award, which provides recipients with a full-tuition scholarship to reward outstanding achievements.
Bethany College President the Rev. Tamara Nichols Rodenberg brought the scholarship to the college in 2017 to honor those in highest academic standing.
Students are selected after undergoing an application process, as well as on-campus interviews with a panel of three faculty members. The process includes a completed application for admission, official high school transcripts, SAT and ACT scores and a required essay.
A 2019 graduate of Brooke High School, Ferrell is the daughter of Trinity Rouse and Jason Ferrell.
Adam Himmelrick and Kaitlyn Adkins, both of Weirton, were chosen to receive $23,000 annual scholarships as part of the college's Honors Program.
Selection is based upon secondary school record, a required essay, references and interviews with the Honors Program advisory committee.
A 2019 graduate of Brooke High School, Himmelrick is the son of Kevin and Trishelle Himmelrick.
A 2019 graduate of Weir High School, Adkins is the daughter of Chasity Adkins.
