Hopedale UMC to mark
150th anniversary Sunday
HOPEDALE -- Hopedale United Methodist Church, located at 237 Church St., will celebrate its 150th anniversary on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m.
The Hopedale church will be joined by its sister church, Bloomingdale United Methodist Church, for the observance.
The Hopedale church was founded in 1869 by a small group of men and women who were interested in having a place of their own in which to worship. In 1870, the Methodist Conference sent the Rev. Stevenson to minister to them, and from 1873 to 1875, the present church was built. The current minister is the Rev. David Quillen.
Over the past 30 years, pastors who have served there include the Rev. Ben Black, the Rev. Eric Martin, the Rev. Joe Wright, the Rev. Dave Hostetler, the Rev. Bill Westling and the Rev. Ruby Foutz.
Special music will be provided by Jeff and Cindy Burns, and the services will be followed by a covered-dish dinner. The church will provide the meat.
"The community is invited to join us in celebrating in song and fellowship," a spokesperson noted.
Revival services scheduled
at Plum Run Church
RAYLAND -- Plum Run Church of Christ in Christian Union, located at 200 township Road 151, Rayland, will hold revival services Sunday through Wednesday, led by the Rev. George Holly, evangelist.
The Sunday times are 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. The nightly services Monday through Wednesday begin at 7 p.m.
Refreshments will be served after the services.
The church is located approximately 5 miles from New Alexandria.
Prayer breakfast June 15
at Shiloh Apostolic in Weirton
WEIRTON -- Shiloh Usher's Board will hold a prayer breakfast at 9:30 a.m. on June 15 at Shiloh Apostolic Faith Assembly, 3000 Weir Ave.
Sister Tanya Parker will be the main speaker.
Sister Beverly Wilson is the usher board chair.

Edison Summer Feeding
program starts Monday
RICHMOND -- Edison Local Schools will begin the second year of its Seamless Summer Feeding program on Monday with sites at Edison High School and several area churches.
The free meal program runs from Monday through Aug. 16 at the high school in Richmond as well as Amsterdam Church of God from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Irondale United Methodist Church on Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon and Richmond United Methodist Church on Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. However, it will be closed the week of July 1-5 to observe the Independence Day holiday.
Dozens of students took part in the program last year, and it is open to youth ages 18 and under who do not necessarily have to reside within the district. It has attracted many high school students participating in band camp and football training sessions plus younger children to dine on a well-rounded meal including sandwiches, fruit and vegetables. Women's Conference
June 8 at Calvary CMBC
STEUBENVILLE -- "The Wrinkle-Free Women" is the theme of the women's conference that Calvary Community Missionary Baptist Church, located at 255 S. Seventh St., will host from 9 a.m. to noon on June 8.
Praise and worship minister wives will be led by sister Shayla Creech.

Youth revival services
Sunday through Wednesday
STEUBENVILLE -- Finley United Methodist Church will be holding a youth revival Sunday through Wednesday that will feature Pastor Cedrick Brown, who was born and raised in Compton, Calif., labeled by some as the "gang capital of the world."
Sunday morning's service at 10:45 a.m. will be held at the church, located 958 Lincoln Ave., Steubenville. The Sunday evening service will begin at 6 p.m. at the Finley Ministry Center at 128 Raynes Road, Mingo Junction, where the Monday through Wednesday services also will be held, each beginning at 7 p.m.
All ages are invited to attend, especially middle school and high school aged youth.
Brown began to excel in football, which became a way out, landing him at Washington State University (1982-86) where he continued to stand out as a four-year letterman and three-year starter at defensive back. He then signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles under the legendary "Buddy" Ryan (1986-88).
Brown serves as pastor of Commitment Community Church in Lindenwold, one of most racially and culturally diverse churches in New Jersey, where he has been lead pastor since 1996.

Strawberry Fest scheduled
for today at Olde St. John's
COLLIERS -- Olde St. John's Episcopal Church will hold its annual Strawberry Fest from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
There will be "generous portions" of strawberry shortcake for sale as well as hot dogs and taco in a bag. There also will be an indoor yard sale.
The church is near the intersection of Eldersville and St. John's roads.
'Talents & Treasures' event
June 8 at Follansbee UMC
FOLLANSBEE -- A "Talents & Treasures" event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 8 at Follansbee United Methodist Church.
The festivities and day of "fun, food and fellowship" will unfold in the church parking lot at 1002 Virginia Ave.
Members of the Follansbee United Methodist Church have been blessed with many talents, a new release notes, and the "Talents & Treasures" event will be an opportunity to demonstrate that.
There will be themed gift baskets, handmade jewelry by Betty, a variety of homebaked goods, Japanese maple saplings, handmade crafts by Dee and Dawn and a car wash. For animal lovers, pictures with pets will be offered along with bandanas and homemade dog biscuits. Pastor Penny Calmbacher will be available to bless pets.
A trinkets and treasure table and "Bambino Boutiqiue" will offer children activities, games and items to purchase.
The women of the church will be serving food in the church basement, including hot turkey sandwiches, a variety of homemade favorites such as pasta salads, linguini salad, macaroni or potato salad, three-bean salad, homemade noodles, broccoli casserole and baked corn. Desserts and root beer floats also will be available.
Weirton church kicking
off H.O.P.E. project Tuesday
WEIRTON -- The First United Methodist Church in Weirton, located at 3301 West St., is kicking off its H.O.P.E. project, an acronym for Healthy Opportunities, Education and Praise.
It will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Tuesday beginning Tuesday and continuing through July 2. Children and teens of all ages are welcome to attend.
During each session the children will be taught how to exercise via teacher and video instruction. Exercise mats will be provided for each child who attends. After the exercise session, the children will be served dinner.
The sessions will run for five weeks, leading into Vacation Bible School.
The church's children's and youth ministries will be holding its free monthly movie, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," and celebrating Father's Day from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on June 15. Fathers are encouraged to attend the movie with their children. Lunch and refreshments will be served.

'Ushering in His Presence'

STEUBENVILLE -- The Greater Zion Temple Usher Ministry will present the 16th-annual "Ushering in His Presence."
It will be held June 9 at the Greater Zion Temple Family Worship Center, 500 N. Fifth St., beginning at 4 p.m.

Eagle Scout project
WEIRTON -- John Schultz Jr., a member of Scout Troop No. 334 and member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, is organizing a carryout haluski sale to support his Eagle Project.

June 19 at Brilliant UMC

New veteran's marker to be
dedicated at Two Ridges
WINTERSVILLE -- Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, 1085 Canton Road, will be dedicating a new veteran's marker on Sunday in the church cemetery on the grave of Martin Kean (1843-1863), the only death that took place in the "Skirmish of Two Ridges" during the era of "Morgan's Raid," the only incursion of Confederate forces into Ohio during the Civil War.
It will be held at 11 a.m. and is open to the public.
