Companion Animal Care

race/walk set for Saturday

WINTERSVILLE — The Jefferson County Humane Society’s second-annual fundraiser Companion Animal Care Run/Walk 10K/5K will be held Saturday at the Jefferson County Animal Shelter, located at 200 Airpark Road.

The event will begin and end at the Jefferson County Animal Shelter and is hosted by the Jefferson County Humane Society Clinic and Jefferson County Humane Society and Animal Shelter.

It runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

“The course is filled with beautiful flat and inclined scenery and will provide the participants with a great workout,” according to its Facebook page.

“For some people certain medical services for their pets can be financially impossible — even at low-cost rates,” notes Brandi DeNoon Damewood, humane society community outreach manager. “This often means that an animal does not have a good quality of life or must endure suffering and pain.”

All funds donated to the Companion Animal Care Fund are used to assist pet owners experiencing a financial hardship by “granting” a portion of the cost of any medical service(s) that’s needed for their pet and offered at the Jefferson County Humane Society Clinic, she explained. “Being able to offer this plus our low pricing has helped many who truly needed it.”

Participation fees are: 10K, $35 registration, includes a free T-shirt; 5K, $25 registration, includes a free T-shirt; Stroll in the Park (walker), $20 registration; and sleep-in (non walker), $20 + donation.

“Stroll in the Park” and “Sleep In” participants will be eligible for a free T-shirt with a paid registration/donation plus collected sponsorships totaling $100.

All participants will receive a JCHS Companion Animal race window cling and refreshments and can enter for many giveaways.
