Summer open houses continue
at Richmond Crew House
RICHMOND -- The Richmond Community Historical Society is continuing its schedule of summer open houses at the Crew House Museum on Main Street.
The next one will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The open houses will be held on the second and fourth Sunday of the month from June through August.
There is no admission to visit the museum, but donations are welcomed. There are new items available to see, and the Jefferson Union High School memorabilia space has proven to be a popular attraction, according to a spokesperson.
The historical society has various items for sale, including pottery mugs for $12 and salt crocks for $20. The glazed stoneware items have "Richmond ~ Ohio" on them. The historical society also has Richmond history books for sale, available for $10.
The group typically meets every other month on the third Tuesday at the Crew House Museum, beginning at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in local history is welcome to attend meetings or join the historical society. Annual dues are $5.
The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on July 16.

Country Friends schedule
weekend entertainment
COLLIERS -- Country Friends will host the Neon Knights on Friday and Country Friends will entertain on Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 67 Police Lodge Road, Colliers.
The doors open at 6 p.m., the dance starts at 7 p.m., and the hall closes at 10 p.m. for both events. There is a $5 cover charge per person on dance nights.
Open mic is Monday with an Easter party. The doors open at 4 p.m., the covered-dish meal is served at 5 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. There is no cover charge on Mondays, but donations are appreciated. Country Friends Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Christian friendship and brotherly love through music. All proceeds go to charity. Spaghetti dinner

UNIONPORT -- The Unionport Post 333 Free and Accepted Masons, located on county Road 39, Unionport, will hold a fundraiser spaghetti dinner from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Cost is by donation.
B&O Railroad role in Civil
War to be program topic
WHEELING -- Joseph Laker will be the guest speaker at the Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable meeting to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the Ohio County Public Library in Wheeling.
Laker received his doctorate in history at Indiana University and taught at St. Olaf College and Wheeling Jesuit College, retiring after 33 years. He has written numerous articles on Japanese and Eastern Asian history in addition to a book tracing the history of Wheeling Jesuit College.
Laker's lecture will focus on the role of the B & O Railroad during the Civil War. The lecture is open to the public and free of charge.
New Cumberland Lions
food fundraiser Saturday
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The New Cumberland Lions Club's pulled pork takeout will be available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday in the parking lot of the Swaney Memorial Library.
A pork sandwich will cost $5.50. Coleslaw topping on the sandwich will be an additional 25 cents. Smoked chicken halves will cost $6. Both are available as dinners with two side dishes -- baked beans and potato salad or coleslaw -- for an additional $1.50. Whole smoked pork butts will be available for $26 by advanced order only.

Cadiz Lions Club hosting
golf scramble on Saturday
CADIZ -- The Cadiz Lions Club is hosting a fundraiser golf scramble on Saturday at the Cadiz Country Club with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
The four-man scramble cost is $65 per player and includes golf, cart, lunch, beverages and dinner. There will be first- and second-place case prizes, door prizes, a 50-50 drawing and hole-in-one contests.

Hills School reunion set for
June 30 at Bell Chapel UMC
STEUBENVILLE -- The annual reunion for Hills School, formerly Oak Grove School, will be held June 30 beginning at 2 p.m. at Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 3419 state Route 213, Steubenville. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a covered dish and their own beverage.
