BLOOMINGDALE — Bloomingdale’s two-day July 4 celebration sponsored by the Make A Difference Committee kicked off July 3 with an opening service at Bloomingdale Park by the Rev. Mary Ann Smith, guest speaker.

Special music was provided by the Rev. Melody Essex of Shaffer Chapel AME Church in McIntyre. A free picnic was held afterward.

July 4 festivities began with an “Anything that Moves” parade, followed by the Big Wheel race, plunger race, pet parade, live music by New Age Adenas, Movin and Groovin inflatables, a Jell-O contest and frozen T-shirt contest. The night ended with “a fantastic fireworks display,” a spokesperson said.

Anyone interested in helping with next year’s event is welcome to attend meetings held at 7 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month, starting in September. They are held in the basement of the Bloomingdale Town Hall.
