Brilliant Legion recruiting

vendors for August flea market

BRILLIANT — The Brilliant American Legion Post 573, located at 210 Market St., will be hosting a flea market on Aug. 24, beginning at 9 a.m.

Tables and spaces are available for $10 for outside vendors or $15 inside. To reserve a table/space, contact Mickey Nest at (740) 317-7109.

“If you are reserving space inside the building, no large items or furniture (washers, dryers, couches, beds, etc.) will be permitted inside,” a news release notes. “No hot food is to be sold.The Legion will have hot food and drinks available for purchase.”

The flea market is a rain-or-shine event. “If you reserve a space outside, feel free to bring something to shade or cover your table,” the release adds.

Fashion show Aug. 25 to

benefit Weirton United Way

WEIRTON — The Weirton United Way 2019 fashion show will be held Aug. 25 at Williams Golf and Country Club, beginning at 2 p.m.

The event will feature a fashion show by J. Jones Evening Wear. Tickets are $35 each and include the show and lunch.

For tickets or information, contact the United Way office at (304) 748-7213. Tickets will only be sold in advance and will not be available at the door.

First Choice America CFCU will serve as the runway sponsor.

Harvest Day for Kids

scheduled for Aug. 10

NEW CUMBERLAND — The New Cumberland Garden Club and the Magic Tree Community Garden will be hosting a “Harvest Day for Kids” on Aug. 10 at the Magic Tree Garden, located at the corner of Jackson and North Chestnut streets.

It will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants can register at the Swaney Memorial Library, (304) 564-3471, or the city building, (304) 564-3383.

Activities will include painting canvas harvest bags; a visit from a Master Gardener; rock painting; hot dogs, chips and a drink; face painting; guess the kernels on the corn; plant a tree; and a drawing for back-to-school backpacks.

Recipe club to meet Tuesday

at Brooke County Library

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library’s adults-only recipe club is set to meet.

Every month, the club works with a theme. Those participating choose a recipe, make it up and bring it into the library with a copy of the recipe.

Club members then share the finished product, swap recipes and engage in fellowship.

Tuesday’s meeting at noon in the River Room will be based on a theme of “Desserts.”
