‘Hot Dogs on the Lawn’
Aug. 22 at Zion United
STEUBENVILLE — Zion United Church of Christ, 139 N. Fifth St., will host its seventh-annual “Hot Dogs on the Lawn” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 22.
The menu will include hot dogs, 75 cents each or two for $1.25; potato salad, $2; pasta salad, $2; baked beans, $2; strawberry pretzel Jell-O salad, $1.50; and assorted desserts for $1.50, including cherry pie, Texas sheet cake, hummingbird cake and peanut butter sheet cake. Cold pop and bottled water will be available for 75 cents.
The church will have a small shelter on the lawn, and the social hall will be open.
Shiloh Apostolic to mark
91st anniversary Aug. 25
WEIRTON — Shiloh Apostolic Faith Assembly, located at 3000 Weir Ave., Weirton, will celebrate its 91st church anniversary with a special service on Aug. 25, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Pastor D.W. Cummings will be the guest speaker to the theme “Hope in God.”
A picnic-style dinner will be served after the service.
“We invite any former members and friends of the ministry to come fellowship with us,” said Rebecca Turner, program coordinator.
Holy Resurrection Serbian
Orthodox welcomes new pastor
STEUBENVILLE — Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church in Steubenville has a new pastoral leader in the Rev. Stefan Djoric.
He succeeds the Rev. Rade Merick, who retired after more than 30 years at the church located at 528 N. Fourth St.
Born in Cacak, Serbia, Djoric attended elementary and high school there before moving to Belgrade to pursue studies in theology at the College of Orthodox Theology. After graduating in 2016, he received a full scholarship from St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Seminary in Yonkers, N.Y., to continue his studies on the masters level. In 2018, he graduated from the Master of Arts program at St. Vladimir’s Seminary and pursued his Master of Theology degree. During his studies, he was ordained a deacon by His Grace Bishop Irinej on Dec. 23 at the Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Ellwood City, Pa.
Upon his graduation from the Master of Theology program, he was ordained a priest by Irinej at the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church in Steubenville where he now serves as a parish priest.
“I am thrilled to be in Steubenville among great Christians,” Djoric said. “Additionally, I am honored to be a priest at the Serbian Holy Resurrection Church in Steubenville where we are witnessing the constant growth of the church and increase in numbers every day. We welcome all to our community of love and service to Christ and are inviting all to share in peace and joy that our community has to offer,” he said.

NEW CUMBERLAND — Immaculate Conception Church in New Cumberland is marking its 50th anniversary this year with an anniversary celebration to be held in October.
To help with the costs of that, the church is holding a “Bingo-Palooza” fundraiser today at the New Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the first game is at 6:30 p.m.

STEUBENVILLE — Second Baptist Church, 717 Adams St., Steubenville, will be hosting a Ladies Day Weekend on Aug. 23-25.
Activities will include:
¯ Aug. 23: A ladies bowling night will be held Aug. 23 at Steel Valley Lanes in Weirton, beginning at 6 p.m. The cost is $5.
¯ Aug. 24: The Connie Vinson luncheon begins at 11 a.m. at Froehlich’s Classic Corner in Steubenville. The cost is $20.
¯ Aug. 25: The Ladies Day of Worship begins at 10:45 a.m. to the theme “For Such A Time As This.” The guest speaker will be Minister Charlotte Wade of the United Baptist Church of Akron.

NEW CUMBERLAND — The peach festival of Nessly Chapel United Methodist Church, 52 Nessly Road, New Cumberland, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
Lunch is $6. Peach pies will be sold for $10.
Community Bread Basket
hosting quarter auction
WEIRTON — The Community Bread Basket will be conducting a quarter auction fundraiser on Sunday at the Masonic Hall Annex on Knights Road in Weirton.
Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. with the auction beginning at 1:30 p.m. Admission of $5 includes one bidding paddle.
There will be a variety of auction items in addition to a Chinese auction. Those who bring a nonperishable food item as a donation will be given an extra ticket for the Chinese auction items.
Involved in planning the event are Jim Pauchnik, CBB board member; Tara Sheperd, CBB program administrator; Pat Cotherman, fundraiser chairperson; Pam Makricostas, fundraiser committee member.
“The Community Bread Basket is now providing food to more than 200 families per month,” Pauchnik said. “The increased need has caused a financial burden at CBB. Church having car wash,
collecting school supplies
FOLLANSBEE — Sycamore Tree Church, located at 2854 Eldersville Road, Follansbee, will be hosting a free car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
The church also will giving away hot dogs and other snacks during the wait with the goal being “to get to know the community a bit better,” according to a church spokesperson.
Additionally, the church will be collecting school supplies to be donated to Brooke County Schools. Any type of school supply will be accepted and can be can be dropped off at the car wash or on Sunday morning or Wednesday evening. For information about the church, visit www.SycamoreTreeChurch.com.

WINTERSVILLE — Families Anonymous meetings are held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Monday at Wintersville United Methodist Church, 702 Main St. Wintersville.
The meetings are for families of addicts and alcoholics and have been in place there since October 2014.
