Country Friends announces
entertainment for weekend
COLLIERS — Country Friends will host Bud Sapp’s Country Sounds on Friday and Country Friends on Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 67 Police Lodge Road, Colliers.
The doors open at 6 p.m., the dance starts at 7 p.m., and the hall closes at 10 p.m. for both events. There is a $5 cover charge per person on dance nights.
Open mic is Monday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the covered-dish meal is served at 5 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. There is no cover charge on Mondays, but donations are appreciated.
Country Friends Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Christian friendship and brotherly love through music. All proceeds go to charity.

Steubenville Kiwanis continue
to accept orders for roses
STEUBENVILLE — Members of the Steubenville Kiwanis Club are continuing to accept orders for what constitutes the organization’s key fundraiser.
Orders for a dozen long-stemmed roses can now be placed through any Kiwanis member or by calling Tom Timmons, treasurer, at (740) 314-9574.
The sale has been an annual tradition of more than 50 years for the club, which uses the proceeds to fund a number of its youth and community projects, including scholarships and a Christmas party for first-graders at East Elementary School in Steubenville.
The price of a dozen long-stemmed, boxed roses is $20 for local deliveries to be made Sept. 17 to the Steubenville, Wintersville, Mingo Junction, Toronto, Richmond, Brilliant, Weirton and Follansbee areas. The sale continues to be limited to local sales only, with no mailouts as done in past years.
The deadline to place orders is Sept. 13.
W.Va. PTA regional training
Aug. 27 at Brooke High School
WELLSBURG — West Virginia PTA will be conducting regional training for the Northern Region at 6 p.m. on Aug. 27 at Brooke High School, located at 29 Bruin Drive, Wellsburg.
It is one of five regional training sessions being held across the state.
PTAs with two or more officers attending will have an opportunity to win two $250 grants for their PTA, according to a press release from Rose Rossana, president. The winner will be announced via Facebook and the website in mid-September.
Light refreshments will be served.
“New programs will be introduced that are value added for your PTA and school,” the news release notes.
The website is westvirginiapta.org and describes the “overall purpose of PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.”
Steubenville City Schools
retirees meet for lunch
STEUBENVILLE — Twenty-seven retirees of Steubenville City Schools met Aug. 8 at Capraro’s Restaurant and Lounge in Hopedale for lunch.
Get well cards were signed for those who are ill. All Steubenville City Schools retirees are welcome to attend the monthly get-togethers. Call Linda Holub to be placed on the call list.
The next luncheon will be held Sept. 12 at the Farm Restaurant and Pub in Adena.
