‘Facing the Giants' actor
to lead revival services
MINGO JUNCTION -- Actor Jason McLeod, who appeared in "Facing the Giants" and "Fireproof," will be the featured speaker at weekend revival services hosted by Kolmont Community Church, located at 48 Finley Road, Mingo Junction.
The services will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, and at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, according to the church's pastor, the Rev. Herb Fletcher.
According to promotional informational provided, when Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga., decided to make a movie, McLeod landed the part of team captain Brock Kelley in the now internationally distributed Christian movie, "Facing the Giants."
After the movie was produced, McLeod went on to Georgia Southern University where he played football for the Eagles for two years. "Before the release of the film, God called Jason to step away from football to pursue ministry," the release notes. "Jason had no idea how the Lord would later catapult that ministry with the release of 'Facing the Giants' in theaters across the nation as well as distribution in 56 other countries. Jason also participated in Sherwood Pictures third feature film, 'Fireproof,' in which he took on the role of rookie fireman Eric Harmon, as well as working on the set crew for feature film 'Courageous,'" it continues.
Best known for the inspirational "death crawl" scene, McLeod has served in ministry and the local church for the past 12 years. "Jason has a unique gift of connecting with audiences of all ages and hopes to point people to a real and authentic relationship with Jesus Christ through biblical teaching." the information adds.
McLeod has a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies of communication and religion from Liberty University and lives in Georgia with his wife, Meagan, and their three children.
Woman's Club meets Thursday

STEUBENVILLE -- The OFWC/Woman's Club of Steubenville will kick off its 2019-20 club season on Thursday, with members and guests gathering for a noon luncheon and business meeting at the Steubenville Country Club.
The meeting location was incorrect in a news item on Monday's community page. Club President Carlotta Jordan will preside at the opening session where tribute will be paid to 50-year members Eleanor Weiss, Shirley Valuska and Lucille Biggio.

fundraiser dinner Thursday
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- The East Springfield Community Recreation and Service Center will host its monthly fundraiser dinner from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

WEIRTON -- The Greater Weirton Senior Citizens Center, located at 3425 Main St., will host a dance on Thursday with live entertainment by Light Touch.
"This is a great opportunity to dance and socialize or just listen to good music," noted a center spokesperson. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the band will play from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. There is a $5 charge at the door. Free refreshments will be provided. National Eagle Scout

WHEELING -- The National Eagle Scout Associations of the Ohio River Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America, will hold its third-annual picnic from noon to 3 p.m. on Sept. 15 at Sandscrest Scout Reservation

Toronto Senior Citizens
welcome new member
TORONTO -- Doris Matyas presided at the Toronto Senior Citizens meeting held Aug. 22 with Margaret Bryan welcomed as a new member.
Joyce Zimmerman gave the blessing for the pizza party and led the members in opening Exercises. Reports were given by Fran Sheets, Joyce Dobbs and Rosemary Bonofine.
Judy Bickler and Carole Eddy will be the new tour directors for next year. New officers will be listed in April. The trip to see "The Lion King" at the Benedum will be Sept 10. The bus will leave Toronto at 3:30 p.m. from the Cornerstone Church and from Steubenville at 3:45 p.m. from the Hampton Inn. There are a few seats left for the play in Sugarcreek on Oct 15. Fire department having
gun bash on Sept. 14
RICHMOND -- For the second year, the Richmond Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co. is hosting its fall classic gun bash, which will be held Sept. 14 with doors opening at 1 p.m. at the fire station located at 7452 state Route 152 S.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to purchase much-needed equipment that will benefit the entire community, according to Chief Brian Hare. The event also will "give you a chance to see your dollars at work and meet the people responsible for the fire and EMS services in your area," he added.
Tickets are $20 per person and include a buffet, beverages and an opportunity to win $10,000 worth of guns and cash with one prize drawn every 15 minutes, There also will be extra drawings and games available at additional cost.

"In the past, we held our subscription drive. Due to changes in the laws regarding insurance, we are no longer able to continue that program," he noted. Lasagna dinner fundraiser

JEWETT -- The Jewett Volunteer Fire Department will host a fundraiser homemade baked lasagna dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The meal includes salad, bread, dessert and beverage. The cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children.
School of Christian
Education is Saturday
STEUBENVILLE -- Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 221 N. Seventh St., Steubenville, will host School of Christian Education on Saturday.
Classes being offered are "Spiritual Formation," instructed by the Rev. Stephan Hazelhurst Sr.; "Writing Techniques I," instructed by Deacons James S. Townsend; and "Creative Ways of Teaching," instructed by Dean Ladelle V. Small.
A continental breakfast will be served at 7 a.m., and classes will begin at 9 a.m.
The School of Christian Education is under the direction of Sister Hazel Sweetenberg, dean in training. Sister Rosetta Moore, dean of the United Missionary Baptist State Convention, is the overseer. Bishop Jermaiine V. Moore Sr., is pastor.
Registration is $15 for ages 13 and older.
