Library announces programs, activities

HEALTH LITERACY MONTH — In observance of October being Health Literacy Month, Carriage Inn of Steubenville is sponsoring a presentation at the library with author Christine Mabon to discuss ways to love the mind, body and spirit based on her book, “101 Ways to Nurture Yourself.” The presentation will be at the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County’s Schiappa Branch on Oct. 8 at, beginning 1 p.m. Register by calling the library at (740) 264-6166. STEUBENVILLE -- The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County has planned the following activities and programs at its various locations:

Main Library, (740) 282-9782

Adults: Color pages designed for adults on Tuesday, anytime from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Coloring pages and coffee are supplied. Attendees should bring colored pencils.

The Jefferson County Health Department will administer flu shots at the main library from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 7. The cost is $25, and some insurances will be accepted. For information, call the health department at (740) 283-8530.

Adena Branch, (740) 546-3782

Children: Babygarten, for parents with babies from birth to age 2, will be at 11:15 a.m. Oct. 3.

Children can make a craft to take home on Oct. 3 at 5:30 p.m.

Book club will meet for discussion at 6 p.m. Monday. Call to join.

Dillonvale-Mount Pleasant Branch, (740) 769-2090

Adults: Tri-State Financial Services registered representative Suzanne Kresser will present information about Social Security at 1 p.m. on Tuesday including getting the most out of benefits, understanding the value of Social Security, different types of Social Security benefits, taxation of benefits and recent developments. Register by calling the library.

Children: Play and Learn the Alphabet, for parents with children ages 2-6, will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Children will play with letter-learning toys that promote early literacy skills.

Children can make a craft to take home on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Schiappa Branch, (740) 264-6166

Adults: "Get Tech Help" to download e-books, magazines and more from the library's website to an electronic device from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. Call to schedule a 15-minute appointment.

Children: Play games on Wii, Playstation and XBOX360 at Kids' Gaming Night on Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Play and Learn the Alphabet will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
