STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Art Association held a palette knife painting workshop and demonstration Oct. 16 at Historic Fort Steuben with April Ryan as the featured artist.
Ryan received her bachelor's of fine arts degree during the 1950s from California University of Pennsylvania and is the owner of Thistledown Home and Art in Washington, Pa.
The art association has plans in the works for a coloring and drawing contest for students in the local schools; a display of nutcracker and winter-themed paintings; and a Steubenville-themed art show for the fall of 2020.
Linda Ard of Weirton is the featured painter during October at Historic Fort Steuben. Although basically self-taught, she has taken classes for many years at the Center for Music and Art and is "very accomplished" in colored pencil. Her featured scenes include florals and animals from nature.
Bob Watson, an SAA member from Weirton, recently was inducted into the Weirton Hall of Fame in the music and art category in August.
SAA member Gina Judy of Richmond won first place for her painting, "Sunny Riverwalk Serenade" watercolor in the Southeastern Ohio Watermedia Society Annual Juried Exhibit. It is on display through Jan. 25 at the Tuscarawas Center for the Arts in New Philadelphia. Judy recently received third place in the Regional North Hills Art Center Show, Pittsburgh, and the Nature/Wildlife Show, Butler, Pa., in the works-on-paper category. She has a piece in Watercolor Ohio, the juried exhibit of the Ohio Watercolor Society at the Mansfield Art Center through Oct. 28.
In other SAA news, Martha Davis-Rice, Cambridge, won second place for her watercolor on yupo, "Downtown," and Paula Siebieda of Bellaire, received a merit award for "Ghost," her acrylic on canvas. She also received a first-place award for her oil painting in the painting category of the nature/wildlife (Butler, PA) show.
Virginia Price of Wintersville recently received the Katie Hill Vaden Award for "Best Watercolor" in the Lynchberg (Va.) Art Association Show.
