Annual cookie walk Dec. 14
at Christ United Methodist
WEIRTON -- The annual cookie walk at Christ United Methodist Church, which has become a holiday tradition with many in Weirton, will be held in the fellowship hall of the church at 3598 Pennsylvania Ave. on Weirton Heights from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 14.
Many in the congregation use their favorite recipes to bake dozens of holiday cookies that are displayed on tables throughout the hall. Patrons roam through the selections and pick out what they will need for the holidays at $6 per dozen or call ahead for pickup. Also, there will be a variety of soups for takeout at $3 per pint or $5 per quart.

Christmas cookie sale
at Wellsburg church
WELLSBURG -- Christ Episcopal Church in Wellsburg will hold its annual Christmas cookie sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 14 in the parish hall at 1014 Main St.
Pre-orders of lady lox and nut horns can be ordered during November for $7 per dozen by calling Sylvia Ensell at (304) 748-4082.
Several other varieties of cookies will be available on the day of the sale.
Annual holiday bazaar
today at Weirton church
WEIRTON -- St. Thomas Episcopal Church, located on Three Springs Drive, is holding its annual holiday bazaar from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.
Soups and sandwiches will be available for sale. A holiday bake sale and crafts will be part of the event and quarts of soup will be sold. Patrons can dine in with takeouts available. For information, contact the church at (304) 723-4120.
Bethany Memorial Christian
Church to welcome new pastor
BETHANY -- Bethany Memorial Christian Church has announced that the Rev. Sharon E. Watkins will serve as its next pastor, filling the pulpit established by the Rev. Alexander Campbell in 1831.
Watkins previously was general minister and president of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada. "She is an inspirational preacher, teacher and facilitator who has considerable experience in a variety of ecumenical settings," according to a news release.
She is concluding her role as director of the Truth and Racial Justice Initiative of the National Council of Churches (US) as well as interim minister of First Christian Church in Weirton. She serves on the Boards of Friendship Press and Christian Theological Seminary.
Watkins holds a doctor of ministry degree from Phillips Theological Seminary, a master of divinity from the Yale Divinity School and a bachelor's degree in French and economics from Butler University. She is a graduate of Shortridge High School in Indianapolis. She has been awarded numerous honorary doctorate degrees.
She and her husband, the Rev. Rick Lowery, president of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society and adjunct professor of Hebrew Bible at Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Ky., have two adult children.
Wintersville church hosting
'Breakfast with Santa' Dec. 14
WINTERSVILLE -- The Wintersville Church of the Nazarene, 377 Longvue Drive, Wintersville, will be hosting "Breakfast with Santa" on Dec. 14, beginning at 9 a.m.
The free event for all community members will include a waffle bar, scrambled eggs, pastries, juice and coffee. It will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Santa will read the Christmas story and then be available for pictures. A 4×6 photo will be mailed to each family in attendance.
The event also will include a take-home craft table set up for children.
Church Women United set date
for Dec. 6 Christmas luncheon
WEIRTON -- The Church Women United will hold their annual Christmas luncheon at 11 a.m. on Dec. 6 at First Baptist Church, 307 Homewood Ave., with St. Paul's Church.

Thanksgiving dinner planned
at Cadiz Presbyterian Church
CADIZ -- Cadiz Presbyterian Church, 154 W. Market St., has announced several upcoming events, including a free Thanksgiving Day community dinner that will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday.
All are welcome to attend, and participants can eat in or get takeout.
Next month, the church will be hosting a Christmas Choir Festival on Dec. 8, beginning at 7 p.m. The annual event will feature Christmas hymns and music performed by Harrison County church choirs.
Roger Hoard and Dr. Dan Jones will be performing holiday favorites during their Christmas concert on Dec. 12, beginning at 7 p.m. A love offering will be taken. There will be cookies and refreshments in the fellowship hall following both concerts.

Philoptochos Society holds
anniversary dinner meeting
STEUBENVILLE -- The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Philoptochos Society held its anniversary dinner meeting on Nov. 7 at the Steubenville Country Club with President Angie Mahfood presiding.
Presbytera Jennifer Moore gave the opening prayer.
The Salvation Army was designated as the November charity. A donation was made to the Ronald McDonald House and to I.O.C.C. for the people of the Bahamas. Familes in need will be taken care of at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The next meeting will be held Dec. 5.
Holiday craft, vendor show
Dec. 7 at Sugar Grove UMC
TORONTO -- Sugar Grove United Methodist Church will host a holiday craft and vendor show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 7.
Food also will be available for patrons to eat in or get takeout.

First-time Christmas cookie
walk set for Dec. 7 in Weirton
WEIRTON -- St. Joseph the Worker Grade School cafeteria will be the site of a first-time Christmas cookie walk, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 7.
Homemade cookies will be provided by Rosie's Cookie Nook and bakers from the parish family. Lady locks, caramel cups, biscotti, peanut butter balls and a variety of other cookies will be sold for $8 per dozen. There will be cash sales only.
The fundraiser will benefit the teachers at St. Joseph the Worker Grade School, 151 Michael Way.
Holiday shopping expo
scheduled for Dec. 7-8
STEUBENVILLE -- A holiday shopping expo will be held at Greater Zion Temple Family Worship Center, located at 500 N. Fifth St.
