New Cumberland Hall of Fame

is planning 2020 ceremony

NEW CUMBERLAND — Thirty years ago, the New Cumberland Hall of Fame was an Eagle Scout project for Rob Stanley, who believed that people of the community who volunteered to help in any way without recognition should be recognized for their good deeds.

Since this was a Boy Scout project, the ceremony is held on Boy Scout Sunday, which is annually observed on the first Sunday in February.

The ceremony for 2020 will be held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 2 at the New Cumberland Christian Church on Court Street with a reception honoring the new inductees. The public is invited to the celebration.

There are three inductees each year: One living, one deceased and a Spirit of Scouting Award, which is based on the recipient’s involvement in scouting.

Those being inducted for 2020 are: Tom Kessel and the late Marsh Webster. The Spirit of Scouting inductee will be announced at a later date.

The candidates for this honor are secured by public nomination. Citizens are asked to write a personal letter nominating a person of New Cumberland based on: (1) the particular part they played in the community, religious, civic service, business, or educational role; (2) the length of service in the community; and (3) the moral integrity of each awardee will be of important consideration.

The list of nominees is kept from year to year with additions added each year, an event spokesperson explained. At the October meeting the committee and all past inductees vote on the next year’s inductees.

Nominations for 2021 may be made by contacting any member of the committee or Rick Greenwood, chairman.
