Toronto Sunrise Seniors

celebrate Christmas season

TORONTO -- The Toronto Sunrise Seniors met in the Karaffa Elementary School commons area on Dec. 13 to celebrate the Christmas season.

President Barbara Pritts welcomed members and guests, including Mayor John Parker and his wife, Tracey, and Jeff Foster. Don Clarke and his wife, Cheryl, and Police Chief Randy Henry also were also recognized. Pritts shared a "Christmas Dinner Prayer" as the blessing for the meal. Afterward, members were entertained with a capella Christmas carols sung by Laurie, Connie, Annie and Sharolyn Brookes. Members were given the opportunity to select a Christmas gift.

Ruth White and Nancy Bodrog were recognized for their "extraordinary effort" in making the evening a success. Carolyn McCart, Louie Nelson, Paul Sherwood and Marcella McKnight also were recognized for their efforts. Jerry Cornish and Frank Marino won the 50-50 drawing. Laura Sheets was thanked for making snowman ornaments.

The next meeting will be held Jan. 10 at the Roosevelt Center. The January kitchen committee will include Mary Lou and Bob Deku, Judy Sabol, Marsha McConnell and Donna Twyford. All seniors are welcome to attend.

Country Friends announces

entertainment for weekend

COLLIERS -- Country Friends Foundation will host the K-Band on Friday and the Country Friends Band on Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 67 Police Lodge Road, Colliers.

The doors open at 6 p.m., the dance starts at 7 p.m., and the hall closes at 10 p.m. for both events. There is a $5 cover charge per person on dance nights.

Open mic is Monday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the covered-dish meal is served at 5 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. There is no cover charge on Mondays, but donations are appreciated.

Three Score Seniors welcome

new member, award prizes

WERITON -- The Three Scores Seniors held their December meeting at Undo's with President Kathy McCarrick presiding and extending the welcome and well wishes for a happy holiday season.

McCarrick also read "God Sheds His Love Around Us," offered a prayer and led in opening exercises.

George Pohlman gave his monthly joke, and McCarrick read a poem she had written.

Sunshine Chairman Winnie Kemp acknowledged birthdays. Membership Brenda Edwards took a photo of new member Cindy Steiner. Prizes awarded by Betty Virtue, Cookie Veltri, Jim Hare and Lee Edwards included poinsettias, candy, fruit baskets and cash. McCarrick thanked the waitresses for "always an excellent job" and presented them with gifts.

The group will not meet in January.

Hancock County Museum

Commission has new treasurer

NEW CUMBERLAND -- President Vivian Weigel presided when the Hancock County Museum Commission met Dec. 5.

Under old business, it was noted that estimates on porch repairs were being prepared by several contractors. New business included Robert Bailey presenting the new museum banner for review and detailed information on the former south end of New Cumberland land holdings and placement of businesses.

Marcus Trelaine was approved to serve as treasurer of the museum and will assume those duties at the first of the new year. Weigel presented a letter of resignation from the museum commission post by John Brenneman. A thank-you note for the recent award to Doris Cameron was read by Weigel.

A welcome tea honoring new CVB Director Terri Phillips will be held Jan. 10 at the museum.

Plans were solidified for the Christmas open house celebration. The next regular meeting will be held March 5 at the museum.

Retired railroaders having

monthly breakfast meetings

CHESTER -- A monthly meeting welcoming all retired railroaders and crafts meets on the last Thursday of the month.

Retirees are encouraged to meet at 11 a.m. for breakfast at EJ's Restaurant, located at 807 Carolina Ave. A spokesperson noted any retired railroader is invited. It doesn't matter from where or what company, division or department.

The purpose of the meetings is to help protect railroad pensions and help keep an eye on legislation that may affect them. It also is to foster a sense of solidarity.

Computer job help offered

FOLLANSBEE -- The Follansbee Branch of the Brooke County Public Library will offer free help using computers there to prepare resumes and submit online job applications from 10:30a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 4.

Natalie Staffileno will assist participants, who should bring in all relevant personal documents and information. Help will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. For information, call (304) 527-0860.
