DAR marks Wreaths Across America

WEIRTON -- Several members of the Fort Steuben Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met at Paris Cemetery in Paris, Pa., on Saturday to participate in the Wreaths Across America ceremony observed at noon.

The cemetery was one of several area cemeteries marking what is a national observance.

Regent Vickie Joseph and members who attended led the pledge of allegiance. Joseph also gave the information about the two Revolutionary War veterans buried in the Paris cemetery. Nancy Valles laid the wreath for William Ledlie, an Irish immigrant who joined the Continental Army in 1747, and Jo Ann Morrison laid the wreath for Capt. Goorley, who joined the soldiers of the Revolution in 1776 and rode with Capt. Hullins' second battalion.

After the ceremony, the December meeting was called to order by Joseph at Giovanni's Restaurant in Weirton.

Nancy Courtney gave the invocation and benediction. Opening ceremonies also involved Valles, parliamentarian; Donna Dennis, historian; and Roberta Fedoush.

Registrar Susan Welch introduced prospective members Ashley West and associate member, Tracey Marie Zediker-Dysert from Fort McIntosh.

Reports were given by Secretary Janet Rymer Treasurer Patti DeAurora gave the treasurer's report.

In committee reports, Rymer noted that she had picked up Junior American Citizens projects from Harding Middle School, and they are ready to be judged on Friday.

DeeAnn Greene reported that the website is OSDAR approved and ready for national approval.

Under new business, it was announced that the OSDAR state conference credentials are due by Feb. 7.

The chapter voted to participate in the Wreaths Across America program next year.

The chapter's next meeting will be a potluck planned for Feb. 15 at Historic Fort Steuben, Steubenville.
