Students from two area schools helped make Christmas brighter for Charity Hospice patients. Top photo, A group of pupils from Steubenville's Pugliese West Elementary, known as "AOK," an acronym for "Acts of Kindness," recently demonstrated that to patients of Charity Hospice. The pupils presented cookies to registered nurse Melanie Frangos, which were individually bagged for the staff to hand deliver when Charity staff would be visiting their patients. "Each family was so very touched by the students' efforts to let them know that they were loved, and the students only wish was to bring a smile to the patients and families during this Christmas season," noted Cathy Cich, Charity Hospice founder. The group is under the direction of Crystal Wicker and Dawn Tuckach. "This is the second year for the students to do this for our patients," Cich said. "It's such a blessing to see these young students thinking about others during this difficult time in our patients' and families' lives." Charity Hospice patients recently were presented a Christmas poinsettia along with a handmade card with a special message wishing the patients a Merry Christmas. Angela Arbogast, Spanish Club moderator and teacher at Edison High School, delivered the poinsettias to Charity Hospice along with cards offering "Feliz Navidad" greetings. "This is the 10th year that the Spanish Club at Edison has done this for our patients," Cich said. "The patients and their families are so touched by the thoughtfulness of this young group of students. You just can't imagine how touched the patients and families are when staff presents them with their poinsettia and card. They are amazed at the beautiful sentiments also expressed in the cards, which also say Feliz Navidad," Cich added.
